Use different language with different people
Language is part of own identity and it can express our own self, but also language may have some bad influence, for example some family who speaks wrong grammar will limit their future path and may being discriminate.
We use different language with different people. In the article ‘Mother Tongue’, Amy and her mother used ‘Broken English’ to communicate to each other, it is because of her mother tongue. Although some people said it’s quite difficult to understand what her mother wanted to say, but Amy thought that her mother’s English is perfectly clean and natural. Also, Amy mentions that people will discriminate other who speaks ‘Broken English’ with plenty empirical evidence. People will only treat you seriously when you speak with Standard English.
As a writer, Amy used all the English she grew up with because she wanted to capture what the other things that language ability tests could not reveal, the thoughts of the people who are nature in Broken English and their imagery.
Moreover, Fritzie (2013) points out that many people choose their words differently depending on the context- whether they are speaking to children, in a professional setting that has a language and style of discourse peculiar to that community, or in a social setting with participation across a wide spectrum of people. The language of one setting can totally put people off in another.
I agree with Fritzie, it is because we do use different words between children and adults, for example, we will use the word ‘focus’ than ‘concentrate’ to children because ‘focus’ is simple to children.
