I thought that this best fit into the plot of the story because imagine what it would’ve been like to be Pi, to manage surviving out of a sinking ship and knowing that all your family members have died in the ship as it sunk deep into the ocean and being stuck in a lifeboat with wild animals not knowing if or when they’re going to eat you. It must have been a…

While he was in the lifeboat, he used praying for a couple of things. He used it to pass the time, but it also was used by him to keep his faith restored, and help him get through this really rough time in his life. He often prayed whenever something would go wrong, but at the same time he would just pray to pass some time, and talk to god. The last thing that occurred on the lifeboat that could have affected his mindset is his realization that his family was really gone. He started to understand this heart-wrenching fact in chapter 49, when he starts to decide to look through the rations of the lifeboat. His realization that they are dead causes him to have a decrease in hope of being found and he kicks into survival mode and doesn’t focus on being found but just staying alive. Pi was on the lifeboat for a very long time. 227 days to be exact. In that amount of time, many people tend to lose their sense of communication with others. It is typically highly unlikely that people can just come back into the normal world. However, when Pi returned, he was fully functioning, and was able to come back and do interviews, and later have a wife, children, and pets. That is pretty amazing when you think about it. Lastly, Pi is seen as the protagonist in the entire duration of the story That can prove that he had great determination and will to live because he came out a hero. He did a lot of really great things whilst on the…

Richard Parker gives Pi hope and keeps Pi sane and together throughout the journey in the Pacific Ocean. When Pi and Richard Parker were settling down in the ocean, Pi says “It was Richard Parker who calmed me down. It is the irony of this story that the one who scared me witless to start with was the very same who brought me peace, purpose, I dare say wholeness” (Martel 204). Richard Parker is capable of keeping Pi together. The presence of Richard Parker provides a peaceful environment for Pi, which keeps him together despite the fact that Pi lost his family at the shipwreck. Although a 450-pound Bengal tiger is a threat to the life of an individual, it can also bring comfort to someone who is all alone. If it weren’t for Richard Parker, Pi wouldn’t have survived the 227 day out at sea. Richard Parker is essential because he provides Pi with a companion and a tool to keep Pi’s mind off of the loss of his family and other issues that happen on the lifeboat.…

In class we have been discussing the subject of survival, and we read some tips on surviving out in the wilderness or just surviving anywhere. They include: Perceive and Believe, which means look, see, and believe. If some thing goes sour, look for the positives. Staying calm, which means using fear for focus. Use the fear inside to make you strive to complete a goal. Think/analyze/plan, which means stay organized, and make the big, scary goal into small, manageable tasks that you can complete. Take correct and decisive actions, which means being adventurous yet cautious and wise at the same time. Celebrate you successes, and take joy in completing those tasks that you once thought were unconquerable. Count your blessing, and be grateful - you are alive! Play, meaning do math in your head, play mental games, and things like that that will keep your mind sharp and focused. See the Beauty in things; nature is beautiful, and in times where situations can be daunting, look up at the sky, look around at the trees, just bask in the beauty of life itself. Believe that you will Succeed; keep positive thoughts in your adventures and struggles in life. Believing that you will succeed will make succeeding even more glorifying than not believing in yourself and failing to complete your task, because even if you fail, you'll still know that you tried your…
