To be able to survive people must overcome extra ordinary obstacles. When people get in to dangerous situations certain skills and/or traits come in handy. To survive, some decent skills/traits to have would be; all around smarts from “My escape from North Korea”, stubbornness from “trapped”, and basic Boy Scout taught skills from “Up”, survival, a story to be told. Hyeonseo Lee from- “My escape from North Korea” is a prime example of survival utilizing her combination of streets and book smarts. A clear example of this is shown in page 2 where she is interrogated in suspicion of being a North Korean she- “…managed to control all the emotions inside me, and answer the questions.” She used that to survive from being caught of suspicion. She’s fortunate to have survived, and it was only 1 in many ways she survived. And it’s a reflection on how far she can go in her sanity for survival. This is a connection of survival and it’s one of many things she did during her escape from North Korea.
This is displayed in page 3 when he considers cutting his arm off, he revolts against himself saying: “What are you doing, Aron? Get that knife away from your wrist! What are you trying to do kill yourself? That’s suicide! You’ll bleed out.” It reflects on in conflict being man vs. self. It’s an interesting conflict where the only way he may survive is cutting his hand off but he tells himself otherwise. It’s an interesting way he survives and it’s practical until day 6. This links him to survival because he survives by doing the reverse method of what Hyeonseo did, and he tries to avoid cutting his hand off for as long as he can. It’s a perfect survival conflict most face but done well
