How Does Mehri Affect Marji
A character that Marji has a strong relationship with and that helped build her character was her maid Mehri. Mehri had an influence on Marji because she raised Marji since she was 10, hHelped her demonstrate which was Marji's first exposure to the revolution that brought out more later in the book and exposed her to love.

Merhi shaped Marji by raising her i believe merhi couldn't have helped raise a child without leaving at least the slightest impression on her character. Merhi was her caregiver, play mate and friend for example in the text Marji explains “She was about 10 when i was born..she took care of me” “she played with me and always finished my food she also told me stories about jackals that scared me” a child can not be raised or cared for by another person without being influenced or imprinted as a person.

Mehri going with her to her first demonstrations sticks, this helped bring out the rebellious side of marji later in the book. “We had demonstrated on the very say we shouldn't have: “black friday” that day there was so many killed in of the neighborhoods that a rumor spread that israeli soldiers were responsible for the slaughter” it was her first time face to face with danger.

The biggest way Mehri did was expose Marji to love, in the book Mehri fell in love with a boy in a different social class and kept it a secret soon her secret was let out and the boy no longer wanted her causing her heart break, Mehri was loved by Marji, Marji saw mheri as family even though everyone else seen her as the maid, in the text Marji says “When i went to her room she was crying we were not in the same social class but at least we were in the same bed” i believe Mehri and Marji had unconditional love as a family though the social classes weren't the

Marjan is the most important main character. I would describe Marjan as brave, risky, trustworthy, and kind. She is very brave and risky because she snuck out of the harem 3 times and she did it knowing she could be killed. A reason Marjan is trustworthy is because Shahrazad gave her lots of money, gold dinars, to get a story from the bazaar and she could have just stolen them and run , but she didn’t she stayed on task. Lastly, Marjan is kind because when shahrazad asked for her to help she did when could have said no she didn’t want to.…

Marlena is a modern 1930’s women. She is described to have short, blonde, curly hair, and is very petite. She is very beautiful, but at the same time is also smart and gutsy. Unlike many other typical girl main characters, Marlena is very bold. She isn’t the damsel in distress, and doesn’t show many weaknesses of herself. She is her own person, and she isn’t afraid to show it throughout the novel. For example: There is a part of the book between August, Marlena, and Jacob where the three are drinking wine, and celebrating the success of the circus. As the celebration (and drinking) continues, August becomes suspicious of Marlena and Jacob’s relationship, and hits Marlena. She soon leaves August, and does not take him back, despite his begging and pleading. She isn’t afraid to stand up for…

After trying a cigarette for the first time, Marji found the taste very bitter however decided to try to push through the pain to prove her rebellious actions: “It was awful. But that was not the moment to give in.” (117) Had Marji given in, it would prove that she still is a child meaning she can be controlled by her parents. However, she fought through the pain and made it through her childhood and into adulthood, thus proving to herself and her parents, that she can not be controlled: “With the first cigarette, I kissed childhood goodbye. Now I was a grown up.” (117)…

Melba’s family supported Melba through her unbearable junior year at Central High by giving her the necessary strength needed to stick through it and giving her advice that helped her survive through the dangerous halls of Central high School. Her family suffered along with Melba having to endure the constant telephone threats, being shunned by the whole community and even went as far as to costing Melba’s mom her job and not to mention having to worry about if Melba would come home from school alive. Whenever Melba felt like giving up and leaving Central High so she could go back to her old school, Horace Mann her Grandma picked her right back up and changed her mind. “One little setback –and you want out,” she said. “Naw, you’re not a quitter.”(55) Or when Melba began to be overwhelmed with all the suffering and just wished she were dead her Grandma once again influenced her to see things her way. “Whenever you think about going away from this earth, think about how you’d break my heart and your brother’s heart. You might as well take your mother with you because she’d be beside…

The cigarette: in this chapter Marjane is getting to show how stubborn she can be. She started to smoke and to think that her mom is behaving as one of the dictator of the regime. She also got to skip class for the first time in her life. She did it because of her friends that are older than her; she wanted to be cool and hang out with them. However, Marjane’s mom found out and caught her lie. So , in my point of view, i thinks that her friends and the cigarette are the most important character, even thought cigarette is not a character.…

Two of Marjane’s conflicts with her parents come from her strong desire to participate in the public protests against the Shah. Marjane has a close relationship with her parents, whose activism against oppression influences her greatly. She sees her parents go to protests against the Shah and she desperately wants to join in and be a part of it. On panels 16.9-17.6, Marjane is begging her parents to allow her to join them in the next day’s protests. She says to them, “For a revolution to succeed, the entire population must support it.” They tell her she can’t go yet because it is too dangerous. She is very upset with them for not letting her go. Later, on panels 38.1-39.5, Marjane defies her parents’ authority by attending a demonstration with her maid, Mehri. The author narrates, “When I finally understood the reasons for the Revolution I made my decision.” Marjane is referring to her decision to go to a protest against the Shah. This is after her maid’s heart is broken because the boy she is in love with dumps her when he finds…

Like Jack, Marla Singer suffers the same isolation. She doesn't appear to have anybody in her life who is concerned for her. She demonstrates that this isolation doesn't pertain simply to men in society, but to all. Unlike Jack, Marla embraces this reality for what it is. She is poor, living in poverty. She can't turn to a life of consumption to escape her reality because she cannot afford it. Her openness makes Jack uncomfortable. It's like looking into a mirror.…

As a child is growing up, the people around them affect them greatly, and the violence around Marji and her life is emotionally scarring to her. Her Uncle Anoosh was executed for being a Russian spy, and she cared for him greatly. After she receives the news, she is visited by her image of God, and during this brief appearance she shouts at him, saying, "Shut up, you! Get out of my life!!! I never want to see you again!" (Satrapi 70). This quote is quite strong for Marji; it is shouted in a violent manner that is fairly unusual for her. She is very torn up about the situation that is at hand, which in itself is aggressive, and she is trying to cope. Usually this God is a comforting friend, a figment of her imagination that she created to try to understand the world around her. In this case, she feels that it is his fault that her uncle was executed. She tells him to leave because she doesn't trust him, especially since she is in a unstable, mourning condition. In the image Marji is standing on her bed, pointing to guide God to leave her. God looks sad or disappointed, but almost like he expected it, and is accepting of his banishment, which could translate to him feeling guilty about the situation. The blackened background gives the impression that the main idea is her and God and…

Dean Acheson once gave the timeless advice of “always remember that the future comes one day at a time”. This quote highlights how truly important each and every day is and the significance of the time you use or waste. The way that you choose to use that time, the decisions you make, and the things that surround you change who you are and greatly affect your future. These are all aspects that were clearly shown throughout the graphic novel Persepolis. It is because of these aspects of life that Marji developed the characteristics that she did. As an Iranian citizen Marji was consumed by war for a long time. This is what forced her to learn to take experiences and hardships one day at a time and develop certain traits that she may not have otherwise. It forced her to look at everything in a different perspective than the average child would have, and that is what has molded her into the woman she is today. It becomes clear through the examination of both the novel and the film Persepolis that Marji was a very dynamic character because of her outlook on life due to her many influential surroundings, and her countless unique life experiences that came as a result of the war.…

    Courtroom Observation

On October 8, 2009 I attended a general sessions court at the Lexington County Courthouse. At this time the Judge was hearing guilty pleas. There were many people in the rather large courtroom that day. The courtroom was much larger than the one I had visited during drug court here in Spartanburg. Before the day’s session began I could see many defense attorneys going over their cases with their clients, some of whom were wearing bright orange jumpsuits that told me they were held in jail prior to their court hearing. Some of the defense lawyers appeared to have more than one client. I noticed that there were two gentlemen seated at the state solicitor’s table and another, younger,…

    Strong Military Leaders

It is imperative to have strong military leaders because without them the military could not function. They would be disorganized, dysfunctional, and it would be complete chaos. The officers that should be giving out the orders cannot, because they are incompetent. That would lead to the people waiting for the orders having nothing to do, so they leave since they are no longer needed. The officers would not be able to motivate the troops, which in turns lowers the morale. That would lead to hardly anyone wanting to enlist, so the whole military would fall apart. Also without strong military leaders the United States would fall from a global superpower, because it can no longer protect itself. Another thing would happen as well, there would…
