The media has changed our view on many different things throughout history. The way that they report on common issues can decide how we feel about these issues. Not only can the media change your opinion on world events, but they can change your opinion on the people involved with the event. This is a huge power to have and can be abused if not used by the right people. The media not only can influence your opinion on events but also influence what you like and dislike. This is called pop culture. Pop culture are cultural trends that are spread by commercial mass media. This basically means whatever is popular at the time. Throughout history, pop culture has been mistaken for American culture because of America’s huge influence on pop culture.
It may sometimes seem as though America is the only country that contributes to pop culture, many other countries have their own items to contribute such as the Japanese has their anime. The great thing about pop culture is that it is the people’s choice. Nothing gets popular without people from all over the world liking it. This is something that globalization bring that gives people a sense of collective identity. They get this by feeling the sense of being like everyone else in the world and having common interests as everyone else. Technology can make pop culture more global but what about the places around the world that don't have technology. This is where the world get a digital divide. A digital divide is the split caused by lack of technology around the world. It is the thing that splits advance countries from everyone else. Thankfully though, this gap is closing due to the addition of new technologies into less fortunate countries. Eventually, if we keep implementing these new devices into other countries the digital divide will close, and we will be one big interconnected world.
