Americanisation is a problem many people suffer from in Australia. Many of the old Australian traditions are now outdated. When was the last time you had a Sunday barbeque just for the sake of a get together? Most of these traditions have been replaced with the ideologies that have come from other countries through things such as television, internet, radio and almost any other form of media.
A report by TV Tonight states that “Overseas content has gone up 154% since 2008 while Aussie content has shrunk from 52 per cent of total hours in 2008, to 38 per cent in the first six months of 2011.” Statistics like this show that the American programs are an ever growing trend in Australian television and thus is slowly but surely blotting out the Australian idealism. Shows such as two and a half men, big bang theory, how I meet your mother and other various American television shows portray Americans living there lives and expressing their ideals. Things such as memes and vines resonate in the minds of young Australians and are often the topic of conversation on trending social media sites such as Facebook, twitter and Instagram.
