The Aztec religion was prominently based around pleasing their gods. The Aztecs believed that everything they did or created was for the gods. As a result a lot of their rituals were performed in order to please their gods.
Sacrifices were important so the Aztecs both individually and throughout the community as they believed that human sacrifices were a repayment to the gods. This ritual was performed daily by Aztec priests. They believed that if this ritual was not performed, the sun would not rise again and rain would never fall. By performing this ritual the Aztecs believed their hearts and blood would fulfil the god’s energy intakes. Only those who were deemed worthy enough could be sacrificed and were believed to join the gods in their afterlife. Today, the Aztec religion and society has influenced the world today greatly. All Aztec children male and female were required by Aztec laws to attend school. Like today, most countries of the world require their younger generations to attend school. The Aztecs were very encouraging towards sports that we still play today such as canoeing, fishing and Tiachtli. Tiachtli was a ball game that they Aztecs played which immensely influenced today’s game of soccer. They were also very strongly represented through society structure. Those who were of darker skin were not seen as high as the lighter skin Aztecs.
The Aztecs are very famous for inventing the first functional calendar. Although it was complicated and we would not be able to use it in today’s society, the Aztec calendar has influenced the calendar we have today in order make a simple
