A Christmas Carol is a story of how Ebenezer Scrooge changes from a miserable man who had no one to care for and no one to care for him. Then After his encounter with the three spirits on Christmas eve he turned into a loving, caring, generous man. This story was written by the admired writer Charles Dickens, after this story was published in 1843 a Christmas Carol became one of the most well known pieces of literature. This story focuses on one theme, poverty and its effects on the people in Victorian society.
Dickens use of variety of language which enables the readers to build up a unique image of Scrooge at the beginning of the story. In this novel, Tiny Tim is a very important character his desperate figure restores Scrooges empathy and care for other people around him, Tiny Tim is the metaphor for all the poor disabled people in the world that Scrooge refuses to help. “tiny Tim bore a little crutch, and had his limbs supported by an iron frame!” This scene with the Cratchits makes Scrooge feel disappointed and then realises why his attitude to the poor and needy is in the wrong. Scrooge start to feel love for Tiny Tim, “Spirit said Scrooge with an interest he had never felt before, tell me if Tiny Tim will live?” Scrooge for once actually cares for Tim, a very important step towards becoming a better person. The spirit reply’s to Scrooge with what Scrooge himself would have said “ If he is going to die he has better do it, and decrease the surplus population.” Scrooge reacts with remorse and heartache this emphasises the change since when he would have thought that comment would be like
