How Does Technology Affect The Ender's Game
For the longest time, technology has aided humans with both simple everyday tasks and complex tasks, but it will not take much longer before it’s power becomes misused. In the novel Ender’s Game written by Orson Scott Card, the community must reduce the amount of technology used because it negatively impacts the society by allowing individuals to obtain too much power, threatening citizen’s privacy, and corrupting the minds of children. First of all, people can gain too much power from technology. An example of this scenario is Valentine Wiggin. When she was writing articles online under the name “Demosthenes” Valentine reflects: “The fun letters, from national bank and international leaders sometimes hostile, sometimes friendly alway …show more content…
Firstly, the battle room makes the children enemies with another army. While Dink is having a conversation with Ender at the dining hall, Dink suggests: “ ‘They get us to fight each other, to hate each other. The game is everything. Win win win. It amounts to nothing. We kill ourselves trying to beat each other…’ ” (Card 143). The battleroom is a simulation of what happens in a real battle but instead of making the buggers their threat, they don’t see other armies as humans but instead as obstacles preventing them from gaining victory. . If the technology for the battleroom was not invented, their would be no hunger for victory so there would be no harsh riverallies between armies. Identically, the fantasy game forces the children to think in cruel ways that they normal do not think in. When Ender is playing the fantasy game and is stuck at the giant’s drink, he reports: “ He jumped at the Giant’s face, clambered up his lip and nose, and began to dig in the Giant’s eye. The stuff came away like cottage cheese, and as the Giant screamed, Ender’s figure burrowed in it’s eye ,climbed right in, burrowed in and in.” The image of a boy gashing out somebody’s eye is disturbing but the only way they can win the fantasy game is if they think in way that they are not used to thinking in. If the game was not programed to push a child beyond a reasonable limit then they would not have to center their attention to such horrid thoughts. In summary, the technology damages the way that children think and how they view each other as a

Gavin Hood's adaptation of Orson Scott Card’s Ender’s Game was an okay film it was neither great and neither was it bad. The movie does not include how the buggers communicate with each other, and battle school looks different from what I pictured it to be. The movie makes look the same and just move some things around. The way the movie shows the battle room is still pretty cool, because you can float around and do some awesome things while floating around. In the book the battle room would change the environment every time after a battle was finished. The battle room has these big led squares for cover. In the book ender did use the cover that had led lights on them, but he also used himself as camouflage,…

Now a day’s technology is such a common part of our lives no one really stops to question what it’s taking away from society, if anything. But in 1992 Neil Postman, an author of over 200 magazines and newspaper articles, wrote the book Technopoly: The Surrender of Culture to Technology to explain the many ways technology was taking over. In his book Technopoly, Postman makes an effort to paint a picture of “when, how, and why technology became a particularly dangerous enemy” (Postman xii). In his introduction, he gives a brief history lesson of Thamus and god Theuth who was the inventor of many things (Postman p. 3) to allow the reader to think carefully of how technology has affected society. He continues to share many anecdotal examples of how technology has taken over common human interaction, but gives no solid…

In Ian Bremmer’s essay, “Democracy in Cyberspace,” he elaborates on the usage of technology in the modern era and how the internet has progressively impacted the world on a global stage. He states how countries have adopted the internet to further influence their political policies and expend the reach of their ideology and how technology has been used to start rebellions against authoritarian states through the means of social media. Bremmer goes on to state how the statement given by Walter Wriston, the former CEO of what is now Citigroup that, “ information technology has demolished time and distance,” may not comply with the same terms of progression that Wriston had once thought technology to been capable of. (1) The theme of technology…

Technology is still developing, and at the same time, people’s actions are altering. In Fahrenheit 451, the technology is modernized, and thus, people tend to take advantage by wrongly using technology, especially overusing it. This novel brings forward the simple idea that technology can turn into an addiction--which people often have trouble overcoming, the power of limiting the use of technology. The novel answers this question by showing us how the behaviors of the characters and the society have changed. If society develops firm habits to stop overusing technology, society would succeed, both in mind and…

Samuel G. Freedman and Maggie Jackson both write magnificent essays about technology and how it has negatively affected society. Although, they both fail to mention that technology is not the reason for lack of education, communication, and expression of our own ideas but that it is the user who abuses the amount of technology used. Technology has been useful in many ways and has only improved society through resources of communication and information regardless of those who use technology in negative ways.…

The mind game was yet only another way of manipulating Ender’s mind, teaching him that he should never trust anybody. Ender heads towards a castle when he passes a playground with young children playing in it. At first the children ignore Ender, and then when they begin to taunt him, he becomes angry and walks away. Suddenly, the children who were playing on the playground turn into wolves and kill him. This is symbolic of how no one is trustworthy in the eyes of Ender Wiggin, even innocent children. The mind game was yet only another way of manipulating Ender’s mind, teaching him that he should never trust anybody. This also seems to be foreshadowing how Ender will be forced to forget his sympathy and kindness when he fights against the children in other armies. The mind game was yet only another way of manipulating Ender’s mind, teaching him that he should never trust…
