How Does Texting Affect Teenagers

Cellular devices and other technology has grown to be extremely popular. With this popularity technology has pervaded our lives and changed social interaction. Text messaging also known as texting is when people with cell phones send short typed messages. The rate of Americans sending text messages drastically increased year by year. Teenagers are large contributors to the presence of text messaging in society. The majority of the people into the texting frenzy are usually between 13 and 17 years old. In this paper we will discuss both the pros and cons of texting. A concern among parents dealing with texting is this new thing called sex-ting. Sex-ting is the act of sharing nudes or partially nude photos. (Dangers of teen sex-ting , 2009)Many of the teens that participate in sex-ting want the person they sent the message to to be the only person who sees the content of the messages; however, that rarely is the case. Young teenagers that practice sex-ting have the potential to be involved in legal trouble. Although this is a major problem with texting teens, texting does benefit a teenager's everyday life. Interpersonal skills are a major thing in our everyday lives. Since teens nowadays are highly busy with school and extracurricular activities texting allows them to still communicate
Others believe that it is one of the best things invented. Teens should be more aware of the issues surrounding texting. Texting while driving is one of the major issues surrounding texting. However, if teens are made more aware of the other issues surrounding texting, such as, sex-ting.
