It’s not because they won’t work for it or because they’re distracted by their phones, it’s because they won’t have the same privileges as adults today. Smartphones are being blamed for being too distracting but adults forget that technology is the future. Dan Kadlec says, “With mobile technology, young professionals can get their jobs done at the beach.” As we evolve, we discover new and efficient ways to do work and technology just happens to be the way we do it. People can work as hard as they can but will never end up making it because they’re not given that opening. America is known to be the land of opportunity but that doesn’t mean opportunity for everyone. In Robert Shiller's article, The Transformation of the ‘American Dream’, he says “But the last decade has shown that with a little encouragement, many can easily become excessively lustful about homeownership and wealth...” When people have that support system, it motivates them to work harder to make it. But again, the lower-class is not given the support they need which means they don’t get anything done.
