How Does Writing Affect My Life
I mostly write for academic purposes, and never for entertainment. Writing is not as enjoyable for me as it is for others because of one potent memory from third grade. I was asked by the teacher to write a personal narrative about the exciting three month summer break that we had. I distinctly remember my classmates reciting their eventful summers when asked to share all the while I was dreading my turn to share. My family does not go on many vacations and I do not mind that fact, but every summer I do not have the "exciting and adventurous" summer break as everyone else. I prefer to relax in my house and sleep in late during the summer. So instead of writing a personal narrative, I wrote a fictional story of my summer. I kept my story realistic so that the fictional summer I had was believable. It was then that I had an epiphany that of all the writing styles, fictional writing would most likely be my strongest point. There is no limit in what can happen in a fictional story. How I see it is that I am limited to what I can experience in the outside world, so I can create my own fictional world in a way that fiction could almost be my alternate parallel realm. …show more content…
Positive influences include talking to a peer before hand on what I am going to write about and see if he/she has any thoughts about my idea, editing periods before the writing assignment is due, and a reasonable time frame for the assignment. The factors that ruin writing for are if the assignment is a personal narrative because I do not believe I have an interesting story to tell, writing requirements such as a certain amount of pages or words, and forced research papers of random topics that I do not find

I don't have much to say about writing for myself. Writing doesn't mean much to me. I am not a writer. I am an orator. However, writing does mean something to my wife. I love my wife. She loves to write. She spends hours a day writing. I watch words flow from her fingertips as she writes page after page. She doesn't let me read much of what she writes, but when she does, I can see the passion and the joy that she has for what she writes about. I wish that I could write with such a fire.…

Fictional writing, however, is a whole different story. The very reason why we write fiction book is to let out our emotions and our thought, to express what we’re too embarrassed to say and thus, this type of writing is the essence of our…

The most vivid memory I have of writing is back in the tenth grade. I had the best teacher ever in regards to writing. I used to view writing as a senseless waste of time. Writing, in my opinion, at the time was always noted to be formal and boring; however, my tenth grade English teacher, Mrs. Perez, changed my whole perception of writing and how it affects humanity. One day after class she pulled me aside and recommended a book known as, “His Dark Materials,” which is about a young girl who, with her allies, fought for the discovery of a dark substance called the “Dust.” The book single handedly altered my mental picture of writing and creativity. Writing can be about anything in the universe, and the possibilities are endless. The main point, however, which ties everything together, is imagination. One’s imagination can truly be defined as infinite to the power of infinite, because it contains numerous amounts of details and features on life and the world itself. How does this tie to writing one may ask. Well an elaborate imagination helps to create an elaborate piece of writing. In the words of Benjamin Franklin, “either write something worth reading or do something worth writing.”…

Everyone writes for different reasons. Writing allows us to tell a story through our own perspective. It allows us to pour all our thoughts and emotions into something that we otherwise might not speak about. Writing can spark ideas and memories we have and draw them out to be put into words on paper. It exercises our mind and our way of thinking. When you write you say what you mean. Some people use writing as an outlet, a way to express themselves or relieve stress and anxiety. It can be used for any purpose. Elie Wiesel uses his experience in the holocaust in a lot of his writing. He feels that he must be the one to tell the story of the victims, the ones who can’t tell it for themselves. As a survivor he is responsible for never letting anyone forget about it. I like to write about something I feel strongly about, something that makes me happy or makes me think, someone or something that has influenced me in different ways. For instance, when I visited Ireland a few years ago, the experience I had there is something I care so much about and it has affected me to such an extent that I want to write about it. The people in my life and the experiences I have had are topics that make me excited to write about.…

Honestly is the best policy. Being honest is one of the best traits a person could have. Telling someone the truth is sometimes one of the hardest things to do in life because occasionally it hurts other people, but in the end it’s the best thing for them and hopefully they will realize that. Being honest will make yourself feel better and in the long run it will help the other people too. Telling the truth is so hard for so many people these days but in order for you to feel good you have to do it.…

In English 1A I am beginning to understand how to enjoy writing. One fatal flaw I previously had in my writing process was that I tried to write the near final draft the first time, it was a slow and tedious process, that made my despise writing. The tool I used to overcome this is freewriting- being able to just throw out hundreds of words in short amount of time with ease is such a relief when it comes to write an assignment like these. Plenty of my free write words don't ever make into my final paper, but just free writing with no limitations is actually fun. I recall how enjoyable it was to write for the genre paper. The genre paper did it feel like work and I managed to create many great ideas. Freewriting is also useful because the lack…

I believe that writing can be a great tool for everyone in order to express themselves freely. Not everyone is a writer; some people have to work at putting their thoughts and words together, before putting them to paper. We are all unique in how we express ourselves; some are just more creative than others. How do we as individuals, get to that point to be able to expand or elaborate further on paper our thoughts? When we have finally gathered our thoughts and start to lay the words down on paper, how do we then decide how to organize them to be able to present them to our audience? In order to start the writing process we have to come up with a topic that we believe would interest others. We then need to do thorough research to have all of our facts and supporting documentation. This would also include making sure that we cite our sources. We never want to plagiarize; using any other persons work without giving them full credit is unethical and dishonest. With that being said, how do we learn to cite our sources properly? How do we determine if the source is accurate? This is all part of learning the writing process. Once we have learned the process, I believe we can all become a great writer if we so choose to be.…

Writing has seemed to be a difficult process for me over the years. This is why it was my choice to enroll myself in creative writing classes over the last 6 years. The most difficult process for me in writing is generating ideas. You can learn to use proper structures for sentences but sadly creativity is something you can learn. In my play, The Doctor and the Patient, I displayed my best writing, and it gives a good example of what I have learned in this class. “THE PATIENT: Look, man—we’re all different. Each individual can’t be typed into a group. All minds—souls, even—are different. But we all have something in common: we’re human. And it’s beautiful.” Is an allegory, often used in poetry. Due to the depressed nature of the patient, he finds something that can bring light into his world. Though he is stubborn, and rejects medicating and therapy sessions, he finds a false sense of security.…

I love to write stories all the time. Particularly just making little stories up and writing them down but I think that it is a very good way to relieve stress, relieve boredom, or just for fun! I remember one time when I wrote a little two page story and read it to my sisters telling them that my friend wrote it and that she wanted some critic, when I was the one that wanted the critic on MY story. They read it and said that is was more of just a rough draft and that it needed "a bit" of work. I was certainly not going to give up because I do love writing, I just need some advice and practice and that I hope to gain in Honors English! I want to really improve my writing skills not only for the fun of writing for myself but to improve for essays and projects in classes, resumes for jobs, and eventually great skills for college! That was the last reason I joined Honors English, to become better at…

    Life as A Writer

Through out our school career, we've been asked by many and all sorts of teachers to write stories, essays, research papers, book reports, and many many other writing assignments. I must say I have always hated writing in all sorts of ways. They took to long to do or they were given out in great lengths that I myself didn't want to do. They were boring assignments, and I didn't want to waste my time on doing them. Now obviously I did them, because I probably wouldn't be here right now if I didn't. In my way of thinking about it, I think it was pointless to give out research papers, book reports, or essays needed to be 8 or more pages. Why and try to have us right about something that you(the teacher) already know so much about. I also understand that you assign these assignments to see what we have learned or to see if we were paying attention, but if we are able to give you all of the information that you want us to show you and need for the assignment, then I don't see the need or purpose to write a paper for so long. I have thought like that since 8th grade, but I have changed in some ways about writing. It was in 10th grade english and my teacher had assigned an essay about "The Great Gasby". It was suppose to be three to five pages. The only different from this essay and all the others was that it was an opinion based essay. Four days later when the essay was due, in class my teacher had asked me "If I knew how many pages were suppose to be written?" and I said " yeah, I had a lot to say about what I thought about Mr. Gasby. " I ended up writing 8 pure pages about what I thought about Mr. Gasby, no re-saying or repeating anything nor did I hate it, I actually enjoyed writing it. Ever since then I loved writing any writing assignment that was based on my opinion, I feel these essays or any writing assignment are better than any other. I feel these essays are better to show teachers if their students are paying attention or…
