Why Writing Is Better Than Writing For School
Professionally, I tend to write very short correspondence which I am comfortable with—short and to the point. Writing for school is different than writing for work and I personally find writing for school a lot more challenging.
When it comes to writing for school, I feel like the words will flow and other times, I struggle with what to write—writer’s block. Just answering this question, I have stopped and started many times. It’s been over an hour and I’m still trying to find the right words for this journal. I question my writing skills constantly. I also question my vocabulary skills. Am I answering the question correctly? Are my thoughts cohesive? Is my thesis good enough? Are my thoughts/words too simplistic?
I do understand

Writer’s block is a term often use to describe a creative block when they are unsure and lost on how to go about with their writing; it’s not just the inability to continue with their work, but it can also be the inability to produce something creative. Moreover, this term is not isolated to writers only, this creative block can apply to all those who practice the art — artists, composers, choreographers. In this essay, I shall explain a few relatively common causes of writer’s block and the techniques to overcome this creativity block. I will be referring to several sources and to my experience on how I deal with writer’s block.…

(1)No major social upheaval can be had without negative consequence and, coming on the heels of the most violent war in American History, Reconstruction was no exception. Given the fierce determination of the North to remake southern society and the stubborn ferocity in the south to reclaim their former lives, the African-Americans faced worse and more violent conditions during the Reconstruction period than they had during slavery. The harder the radicals in the north pressed down upon the south, the harder the south resisted. The African Americans were caught in the center. We see in Thomas Nast’s “Worse than Slavery” (p477) a depiction of how white terrorism in the form of the Ku Klux Klan and other white supremists , which the north could do little to suppress and the south felt was their only way to fight back, was actually worse than slavery. However, though many adversities and hardships were faced during Reconstruction, the net result of the effort was a positive one for the African -Americans because they attained freedom, citizenship and voting rights -- the means to improve their lives.…

I have decided to do a topic near and dear to my heart, writer's block. Actually that was such a lie. I struggle with this almost every time I have to write something, whether it’s a writing prompt or even just a simple response. Say you have to write a five paragraph essay that is due the next day, but you hit a rock and you’re stuck on what to write next. What do you do? How can you get out of this misery? Well, it looks like you have come down with a case of writer’s block. Knowing me, I have had writer’s block too many times but with a couple of tools and strategies, I have learned how to get through it from my tutor who has saved me the many times that this misery has happened. To be honest, which is the best policy in most cases, if I did this rant project a couple of years ago, when I hated writing, I probably wouldn’t have known ANY ways to cope with writer’s block. I still hate it, but at least now I know how to get through it.…

There are many essays throughout the text of Writing About Writing, which discuss writing in a particular way. In chapter two, Maria P. Rey writes a letter to her high school criticizing their teaching strategies. The rules her previous professors had restricted her with often times caused writers block. Mike Rose, a student at the University of California, found that “ students who experienced blocking were all operating either with writing rules or… strategies that impeded rather than enhanced the composing process” (272). Rose’s research supports the dilemma of Maria’s writers block. Students do not intentionally produce poor papers. Rather it is the stress they experience along with…

When it comes to writing papers, I usually have a difficult time getting started. I sometimes have trouble with certain topics, getting the general concept, and then turning it into a writing that will get my point across. I feel as if I’m not very creative with my words as I should be without sounding so scattered brained and lost. I was a little nervous when entering English 1102, after having such a difficult time in English 1101 online. At first I did feel at ease but once we got to doing research on a particular food and the articles, I did have some challenging moments. In in the end I did pull my works together and I plan on sharing some of my reflections while taking a look back on a couple of my papers.…

Good writing to me means knowing what you are doing. By this I mean you know how to use good grammar, punctuation, etc. I think a good writing piece will also have a noticeable start, body, and end. You know you have written something well when it clearly makes sense and there aren’t errors.…

My writing process all depends on what I am writing. Some writings I can sit down and write the whole things and be done with it, while others can take me multiple days or even weeks. I normally sit down and work on it until I finish, get tired of it, or a hit a roadblock. I try to stop when I feel like I am writing the same thing over and over or if I feel like I just need a break. Most of the time, if I feel like I am writing and it is really bad, it is because it is and I need to take a break and come back to it later. Working on it in pieces normally works well for me, to break it up and take it a little bit at a time. I normally struggle when I do not like what I am writing about or when I run out of information to put in my writing. I…

My goal as a challenged writer is to always improve and show my best work. Though it usually takes quite some time for me to produce my absolute best; I often come across problems that constantly bring me to a halt. One of the difficult things to accomplish in writing is usually overcoming writer’s block. From the moment when I first started writing as a child, my main problem always seemed to be writer’s block. However, over the years I’ve learned to somewhat overcome my problem by just putting down the exact thoughts in my head, on paper. Though, it not always easy or works according to plan, it still allows me to perform to the best of my skills. Overall when writing a paper, my first priority is to get the thoughts from my head into the paper. Even though, it may be difficult whether from grammar choices or writer’s block, in the end writing and finishing my assignment and getting a better grade is something I look to improve with this…

I believe that writing can be a great tool for everyone in order to express themselves freely. Not everyone is a writer; some people have to work at putting their thoughts and words together, before putting them to paper. We are all unique in how we express ourselves; some are just more creative than others. How do we as individuals, get to that point to be able to expand or elaborate further on paper our thoughts? When we have finally gathered our thoughts and start to lay the words down on paper, how do we then decide how to organize them to be able to present them to our audience? In order to start the writing process we have to come up with a topic that we believe would interest others. We then need to do thorough research to have all of our facts and supporting documentation. This would also include making sure that we cite our sources. We never want to plagiarize; using any other persons work without giving them full credit is unethical and dishonest. With that being said, how do we learn to cite our sources properly? How do we determine if the source is accurate? This is all part of learning the writing process. Once we have learned the process, I believe we can all become a great writer if we so choose to be.…

Writing in journals for class or writing stories for entertainment proved to be great fun. The writing level of elementary and middle school was easy to learn and work with. Arriving in high school, I felt confident in my writing skills. High school level writing proved to be more challenging. After English I, I felt unprepared for the rest of my high school writing experience. I grew to become uninterested in writing for the next two years. I procrastinated finishing any writing assignment I was given. Though I received decent grades on my assignments, I could have received better grades had I not procrastinated writing my assignments. My attitude toward writing has changed from disinterested to excited with my Composition I and II classes. I have learned much in the first semester of this course and I have grown to enjoy writing again because of this…

People write for many reasons. Some write to learn about themselves, express themselves, or to educate others.
