Freshmen year proved to be a learning experience when writing papers. I learned how to cite sources and use punctuation, spelling, and grammar correctly. Sophomore and junior year built off the initial skills learned in freshmen year and I grew progressively as a writer. Childhood writing was something I enjoyed.
Writing in journals for class or writing stories for entertainment proved to be great fun. The writing level of elementary and middle school was easy to learn and work with. Arriving in high school, I felt confident in my writing skills. High school level writing proved to be more challenging. After English I, I felt unprepared for the rest of my high school writing experience. I grew to become uninterested in writing for the next two years. I procrastinated finishing any writing assignment I was given. Though I received decent grades on my assignments, I could have received better grades had I not procrastinated writing my assignments. My attitude toward writing has changed from disinterested to excited with my Composition I and II classes. I have learned much in the first semester of this course and I have grown to enjoy writing again because of this
course. Composition I and II sounded frightening as an incoming senior. I was nervous that I was ill-equipped to write college-level papers. Upon receiving the syllabus for the course, I was promptly horrified at the amount of assignments we would receive. The lessons in the book helped me to become better at grammar, spelling, and punctuation. As I completed each paper, I found myself enjoying writing again. Using proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation in my writing, though challenging, was helpful for me to receive better grades on my papers. After finishing semester one, I felt accomplished in my skills as a writer. I have grown immensely since the beginning of the year. I am looking forward to the new semester of Composition II. My nose in a book was a common sight during my childhood. Reading was a natural passion for me. As I became older, writing became another passion of mine. Elementary and middle school shaped my writing skills while high school molded me from an average writer to a college-level writer. My Composition I and II course has taught me new skills and made me a better writer. I am looking forward to this new semester of class and the new skills it will teach me.
