Part One: Refining Your Topic
• The topic I was assigned is: Medical Cannabis (Marijuana)
• What do I already know about this topic?
• My Research Question about this topic is:
Part Two: Find four sources to answer your research question
You're responsible for finding four valid and relevant sources that address the topic you've been assigned. Among those …show more content…
sources, you need to have:
• 1 book from a catalog – TomCat, MelCat or WorldCat • 1 journal or magazine article from a library periodical index/database • 1 reference book or article (online, print; CQ Researcher would count as a reference book) • 1 of any type of source --you can also use: DVDs, videos, websites, etc.
Choose sources you can understand and would actually use.
Part Three: Annotations and Works Cited List
For each of the reliable sources you find you will write: • An MLA citation • A paragraph explaining how it will help you answer the research question you developed • Please note: For the article/s you select: please identify whether the article is popular or scholarly
The works cited list will be organized in the proper MLA order. Place the paragraph explaining why you selected the source below the appropriate MLA citation. See the example on CourseConnect.
Grading: You’ll be graded on the following in Part Three: • Order of the citations (they must be in proper MLA order) • Accuracy of MLA citation (each citation will be graded individually, so if you make the same mistake in more than one citation, you’ll get marked down for each of the incorrect citations) • Quality of the sources you select (did you find good sources that would actually help you write a paper on your research question or choose mediocre sources?) • Did you identify the articles you selected as popular or scholarly? • Quality and thoroughness of your explanations about why you selected the sources you did
Part Four: Research essay
Describe the research process you've gone through to complete the annotated bibliography. Discuss:
• In detail, how and where you found each of the resources in the list above (keywords and databases used, etc) • One thing you learned about this topic that you didn't know before.
Grading: You’ll be graded on the following in Part 4: • Did you describe how you found all four sources?
(the more detail, the better) • Did you identify one thing you learned about the topic? Part Five: Reflection Essay - How GE103 Changed My Life (or Didn't)
Now that you're almost finished with GE103, please write about how your personal research process has changed -- if at all -- as a result of taking this class. Back up all your points with specific details about what was useful about the tools and concepts we discussed. (Please write at least 375 words – about one page, double-spaced)
Don’t tell me what you think I want to hear. Be honest! Really!
If you feel you learned nothing useful or if your personal research process hasn’t changed, tell me that, but, as above, back up all your points with specific details about what was not useful. Along the same lines, what would make this course more meaningful and practical for you?
Important Notice: Two things will determine your grade on this assignment: • Whether you write at least 1 page/375 words in complete, grammatical sentences and • How well you support the points you make.
Again, you don't have to agree with me or say only positive things to get full credit for this assignment. I really want to hear your true
opinion.
