Imagine an athlete, playing the game he or she loves. Imagine that athlete getting injured and having to go to the hospital for an unexpected surgery. They try so hard to be able to do the things that they were used to doing everyday before this. Then, imagine the look on the athlete’s face when the doctors says they will never be able to walk again. They will never again be able to play the game that they love so much. The N.F.L created the head, neck, and spine committee with the intention of diagnosing, preventing, and treating any N.F.L football player that sustains an injury, including concussions. However, concussions remain a major issue happening in the football world and players continue to remain affected by them. In fact during the 2015 pre and regular season games, 271 players sustained concussions, making it a 31.6 increase from 2014 (Breslow). This set of statistics proves that the concussion crisis continues to increase because each year more players continue to become affected by concussions. Furthermore, it tells people that concussions don’t only happen in regular games, but during pre season games as well. In addition concussions regularly occur in highschool and little league football. As a matter of fact, around 47% of concussions occur in high school students (Sports). Which represents one of the highest percentages among other high school sports. This again proves that concussions do not only happen in the major leagues. The N.F.L also plays a major rule in these outside leagues. The New York Times stated, “the league’s public position could influence other levels of football because many college, high school and youth leagues take their cues…

Football consists of a team of talented, skilled individuals that display strength, power and speed to play the game. Without these traits, a player will certainly be a failure to the game and the team. It is a very rough form of entertainment that we all love to watch with our families and friends. It is rather ironic that although we do not promote players to hurt each other; in the game of football, we seem to send the opposite message that it’s alright to get hurt, nonetheless, a sport where players understand that in order to stand out amongst other players, the harder they exert effort into the game also increases their risk of sustaining unpredictable injuries.…

Parents protect their children from drugs and dangerous situations for eighteen yeas only to realize that they should have protected them from their own good judgement. It has been known for over two decades that continuous blows to the head during physical performance in sports, places athletes at a high risk of permanent brain damage. These sports also pose a threat to adolescent children due to the connection between brain damage and conditions such as depression, suicidal thoughts, and memory loss. “Don’t let kids play football” is rhetorically persuasive because of the speakers’ background relating to the human brain, suggesting that the audience is responsible for the harm caused to children when playing dangerous sports, and effectively emphasizing the idea of protecting all children from harm.…

I am an avid football fan myself and love playing it as much I enjoy watching it. What I have come to notice recently, is how the lives of football players are drastically changed when they are off the field. Football is a full contact sport, if you’re not prepared or unprotected at any given time during a play, you could end up limping off the field nursing injuries or even leave the game on a stretcher.…

Football over the Years Everything changes over time, sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly, and others you can’t really tell it has changed at all but in football you can easily tell the changes it has been through over the years. While all sports have changed over the years football seems to have changed the most dramatically from rules, equipment, stadium and even in the way we watch football today. When American football was born it was an all-white sport played with hardly no equipment for protection except for a leather helmet to protect your head, the game was played on hard dirt and as you can expect, injuries were constant and some deaths even occurred from the brutal hits and the missing component of protection equipment.…

“Mommy, I want to be just like him. I want to wear a cool uniform just like him. And I want to throw and catch passes just like him.” These are the words of a young child watching professional sports, always wanting to grow up to be just like the professional athlete he is seeing. With professional sports players being such huge role models to kids these days, everything that a player does is watched over by young learning eyes. Kids see how they act, how they celebrate a touchdown, even… how they are hit. With concussions in youth football turning into such huge issues including safety and prevention the National Football League is one that has been stepping up to take its own changes. The NFL has always endorsed safety with youth programs and encouraging concussion prevention, but with football being such a physical sport it begs the question of, “Is it worth it.” With the NFL being one of the most prominent outlet to youth, the handling of issues such as concussion needs to be handled properly in order to send a positive message to youth.…
