Playing sports can be very fun and entertaining, but there can also be risks that come along the way that detract from the enjoyment. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, as stated before Nearly 30 million U.S. children and youth are involved in organized sports. Also “high school athletes account for an estimated 2 million injuries, 500,000 doctor visits, and 30,000 hospitalizations each year” (Alvarez, 2014). As the article says there are too many teens who play in high school sports that are getting injured year round. Athletic trainers are there to respond immediately to any injury whether it be serious or just a minor injury. In the article “Access to trainers not equal at Treasure Valley High schools” it is stated:
Kuna football coach Lee Leslie figures he's coached approximately 100 players for 30 years that each played 10 games a season - plenty of opportunities for catastrophic injuries. But Boone Bartlome’s broken neck Nov. 8 remains the first in Leslie’s coaching career. And he pauses while contemplating what could have happened without a trained medical staff in place the November night‘(Idaho Press, 2014). Here we see where a deadly sports injury occurred an athlete's broken neck, and how the athletic trainer was there to treat the athletic with medical attention. Coach Lee thinks about what would've happened if there was no medical staff on hand that night at the game, and recognizes how dangerous the situation
