Please accept this letter as my formal application for the Athletic Training Residency Program at New Hampshire Musculoskeletal Institute. I will complete my Masters of Athletic Training at The University of Findlay in April 2016. I am currently doing coverage under an Athletic Trainer at a rehabilitative intensive clinical rotation at Ohio Orthopaedics, but have previously worked in the Division II collegiate and high school settings. A position within the NHMI Residency Program interests me because it would allow me to acquire more skills and techniques as a newly Certified Athletic Trainer while advancing in the profession. After spending time working with members of Bluffton University, The University of Findlay and Findlay High School…
Being an athletic trainer means working with athletes which means sports related injuries. A few common foot injuries are turf toe and heel contusion. Turf toe is a sprain of the plantar capsular ligament of the first MTP joint (The big toe). This can be caused by repetitively jamming your toe into the end of your shoe. In my career as an athletic trainer I will make sure to recommend proper footwear. Also, I will encourage good communication so that when this pain starts to occur we can start treating it right away and ice it to prevent it from getting any worse. Heel contusion which is basically a bruised heel but it can be very serious if not treated properly. This can be caused by several things but two that stick out to me are poorly cushioned…
I interviewed Ben Cleveland, who is the head Athletic Trainer for Oklahoma Baptist University. Athletic Trainers are not technically a field in leadership studies, but this interview was very beneficial to be because I want to be an Athletic Trainer at the high school level. This interview just reassured me that being an Athletic Trainer is truly what I want to do with my life. Before talking about how Ben views leadership, one has to know and understand his background and where he is coming from. Ben is originally from Mobile, Alabama and earned his undergraduate in Science in Athletic Training from the University of Alabama soon after that he obtained a Master’s of Science in Physical Education at Florida State University. Ben started as an assistant athletic trainer at Trevecca Nazarene University for seven years before accepting the job here at Oklahoma Baptist University.…

What being an Athletic Trainer means to me in the current health care system does not have much to do with the system at all. It has everything to do with the people. Because of the sub-par care I received and the constant pain I was in due to the untreated injuries, I am set on becoming an Athletic Trainer to give every one of my patients quality care so they won’t be in pain, and they can return to doing what they love with no…

In college my goal is to have fantastic grades and accomplish becoming a certified sports physical therapist.…
Sports medicine is a lot more than people think it is. It is not just running out on the football field when someone gets injured and walking them to the sidelines and making sure they are okay, it is not just telling someone not to play a sport for a certain amount of time so that they can let their body take a rest. It is looking into the body and figuring out which muscles and bones cannot handle as much pressure and pain as the others. It is surgery and sometimes crushing people’s dreams of never being able to play their favorite sport again.…
I used Kuder Navigator to help guide me in my research on an athletic trainer profession. I also talked to some other former athletes from Pleasant Grove High School as well as some of the trainers currently working at our school to learn some of the facts that are important about potential athletic trainer careers. In this profession, I would evaluate and advise individuals to assist in recovery from athletic-related injuries or illnesses. Also to maintain peak physical fitness, and provide first aid or emergency care.…
Playing sports can be very fun and entertaining, but there can also be risks that come along the way that detract from the enjoyment. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, as stated before Nearly 30 million U.S. children and youth are involved in organized sports. Also “high school athletes account for an estimated 2 million injuries, 500,000 doctor visits, and 30,000 hospitalizations each year” (Alvarez, 2014). As the article says there are too many teens who play in high school sports that are getting injured year round.
