sports medicine staff, I realized that I want to become more acutely aware of the health care provided outside of the care I will provide as an Athletic Trainer.
As an Athletic Training Student, my clinical rotations have exposed me to a multitude of different Division II, III and high school sports, as well as other allied health medical staff. All of which strengthened my understanding of the importance of providing safe sporting environments and advancing the knowledge of my athletes of the importance of musculoskeletal injuries. I attended a high school that had less than 90 students, meaning we did not have any medical staff at any sporting event. I was a natural at sports and participated in everything available, earning the position of my fellow athletes coming to me when they needed something taped or if they were injured. This is when I realized the importance of full-body care, knowledge of injuries and collaboration between athlete and sports medicine staff. Once I found out about the position of Athletic Trainers, I began researching, shadowing, and eventually attending school for it. All while acquiring extensive experience developing rehabilitation program, return-to-play protocols and day-to-day health for my athletes.
I believe that my ability to work collaboratively with those around me and my desire to better understand athletic injuries makes me a strong candidate for this residency. I am confident my Athletic Training experience thus far has provided me a strong foundation to enable me to work independently and still learn from those around me at NHMI. I would appreciate the opportunity to work with and learn from the many preceptors within the NHMI Program.
