Strength and conditioning specialist are professionals who apply scientific knowledge to train athletes for the primary goal of improving athletic performance. They conduct sport specific testing sessions, design and implements safe effective strength training and conditiong programs and provide guidance regarding nutrition and injury prevention.

So as you can see there are some pretty big (and not so big) differences between the professions.
