The coach also has a lot of knowledge in this field as well because they have to set up realistic goals, help build confidence, and also need to evaluate the athlete before they should let them back to game style play. Statistics say that it has nothing to do with the physical therapist; it is all a mental thing that athletes go through when they have an injury that will put them out of the season. The coaches are supposed to have some kind of strategy that they have when someone is coming back from an injury so they don’t get hurt again and or they aren’t scared. When it comes to coaches knowing how to evaluate the player for injuries and other problems, concussions are the main topic that has been in the new for the past five years. This …show more content…
Believe it or not when it comes to a concussion it is caused by head to head contact that is going to make the athlete not participate in the sport for awhile. Unlike most injuries it will cause you to rehab the part you injured, but during a concussion you have to not do anything and let the bruise on your brain heal. If you get too many concussions then they will not let you play any contact sport because you can seriously injure yourself if you continue to play, or experience a concussion again. When anyone experiences a concussion you should not look at anything bright, try and do anything that will cause you brain to work hard. In some cases the concussion can be so bad that they forget how to do some of the most common activities and they will need to see a Physical Therapist to assist them back to health. When it comes to concussions the coach should knew when a player is experiencing some kind of injury like this, even though there isn’t any kind of treatment besides rest and non activity. Schneider states that, “The treatment regimen consisted of a combined approach of submaximal aerobic training, light sport-specific coordination …show more content…
“Several studies have analyzed the determinants of the intensity of physical therapy use, highlighting the role of both health-related factors like age, gender, site and severity of the condition and poor health [1,8,11-15] and others, such as insurance status, education level, income and urban residence” (Halfon 2). I thought this was very important because it shows what they have to do before they can even start on you. If you’re an elderly individual then they are going to take it easier on you than if you were like 21. When one is going in for physical therapy there are many different tests and obstacles you have to do before you are able to get physical therapy. Physical Therapy is everywhere you go today, when in the areas that are less fortunate than we are. They are pretty much saying that they have done several studies and they have not found a place that needs and wants more physical therapist then the United States. They are always in need and if you get a degree in the medical field then you are more than likely going to always have a job somewhere. One thing that Physical Therapist have been working on recent in the studies have been trying to send videos of activities and other obstacles for patients to do so they do not have to come to the

The purpose of this study was to determine the knowledge and opinions on concussions of high school coaches from a geographi- cally large yet rural state in the northern Rocky Mountains of the United States. Few medical issues in sport are more important, or have had as much publicity recently, as concussions. The exposure gleaned from tragic health issues among professional athletes post- concussion has motivated college and professional sport agencies to modify and enact strict guidelines in the diagnosis and treatment of suspected concussions. The movie concussion was the first time of the correlation between concussions and football. As I read Nationwide Children’s article, “Concussion in sports”, allowed me to increase my knowledge. Throughout the article, the author categorized what is a concussion and how it affects players. During reading, I found that concussions are a serious issue in sports, because it can cause severe brain damage to an athlete. This is concerning because the brains is one of the most important parts of a person’s body and if effected it could change a person life forever. Furthermore, I found it upsetting that the NFL does not make the risk of playing football known. Although, I understand the NFL provides minorities with opportunities to become successful.…

A concussion is a serious neurological injury cause by a blunt force to the head. A concussion can cause memory loss, loss of coordination, and can lead to CTE, or chronic traumatic encephalopathy which causes several painful, and debilitating side effects, and will ultimately lead to and early death, when left untreated by a professional doctor. There is no certain recovery length, but it requires lots of rest, and restrictions on activity, there may also be a need to immobilize the head to prevent more trauma to the brain. As concussion are so common in almost all sports, most people don’t give them a second thought to intense recovery, but that could be a fatal mistake. Without proper recovery, the soccer player could end up like Jeff Astle, a famous American player who, in 2002, who died suddenly at the age of 59. Astle was diagnosed posthumously with CTE, which most likely caused his untimely death.…

When it comes to sports, every player in a team plays a major part. They work together so that they may achieve victory and success. If one player goes down, they all suffer. One of the most common sports-related injuries is a concussion. A concussion is a brain injury characterized by an onset of impairment of cognitive and/or physical functioning, and is caused by a blow to the head, face, or neck, or a blow to the body that causes a sudden jarring of the head (i.e., a helmet to the head, being knocked to the ground). After concussed, a player can be vulnerable to brain damage and can experience physical, emotional, and cognitive symptoms. Nevertheless, the majority of players who have received a concussion can fully recover if given enough time to heal. Though this is known as a fact, many people fail to make this a major priority after a player has been concussed. Players who have experienced a concussion should be required to sit out for longer periods of time so it can be assured that said player has completely healed.…

The alarming effects of Concussions in the NFL has become a major topic of discussion with a wide variety of opinions from medical professionals, NFL representatives, academic institutions and Anti-NFL advocates. While there has been action taken on behalf of the NFL, some believe that these actions still aren’t enough and that the complete mitigation of concussions has yet to be addressed. There has been many new outlets and sports forums that have called out Roger Goodell and the NFL on their continuous practice of masking the true dangers of head trauma. The New York Times published an expose that revealed that the “NFL omitted 100 diagnosed concussions from its supposedly all-encompassing study from 1996-2001, which understated the risks…

Concussions, not a great experience for anyone, but could everyone be more protected from concussions if hockey helmets were made safer? Scientists are working hard to test top-brand hockey helmets, such as Bauer and CCM, to see how much power it takes to cause a concussion on each helmet and if scientists figure this out, hockey helmets could be made to almost prevent concussions. If hockey helmets were made safer, concussions would be less common, which would cause more hockey players to continue playing hockey. Hockey helmets being made safer have definite advantages for youth hockey players, as well as pro hockey players.…

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has estimated that 1.6 to 3.8 million sports-related concussions occur in the United States every year. Out of all the sports that people participate in year in and year out, football is the one with the highest risk of concussion. Many of the millions of football fans and supporters will argue against that by saying the only reason it has a higher risk is because football has the highest participation rate of all sports. In 2012, three million youth players, one million high school players, 80,000 college football players, and 1,700 professional players participated in the widely-watched game of…

Head injuries, such as concussions, are linked with permanent brain damage. While some may claim that concussions take up to a week to heal, approximately 10% of athletes require more than seven days to recover.…

She was confined to a wheel chair, and with the help of continual physical therapy, the use of her chair has been limited. My cousin works as head of the PT department at Staten Island University Hospital, and speaking with her, I have learned how demanding, and rewarding PT can be.…

The profession of physical therapy intrigues me mainly because physical therapy has had a positive impact on my life and I want to be able to have a positive impact on others. Over the years I have had my fair share of injuries and have been fortunate enough to have a physical therapist work on me. The fact that my physical therapist was able to minimize my pain and expedite my recovery made me extremely appreciative of the profession. Physical therapy is an essential part of athletics, which is a large part of my life, and greatly benefits the sports world. Without physical therapists injuries would be much more detrimental and would therefore decrease the attractiveness of competing in a sport. In addition, I would love to work in a professional field pertaining to sports because they have had such a large impact on my life and have shaped who I am today. Physical therapy has many benefits outside of sports as well, including general physical activity. I lead a very active lifestyle and can’t imagine life without physical activity due to an injury, disease or illness. By providing rehabilitative care for individuals of all activity levels physical therapists allow them the freedom to be physically active. I believe that in order to live life to the fullest, your body needs to be able to take you wherever you want to go. I can’t think of a better profession than having a beneficial impact on others lives and helping them enjoy their lives. In addition to these personal reasons there are outside factors that also make the physical therapy profession appealing. Once you begin working, your job security increases greatly because injuries, illnesses and diseases will always be prevalent in society. This is very comforting to have the peace of mind that you won’t be replaced and it allows you to enjoy your job more. Also, most physical therapists work regular hours, which allows you to enjoy your time off work and not be…
