    Life After Sports Summary

Beyond the general population I am interested in working with, adolescents, I would like to specialize in sports counseling/psychology. The most significant finding from Navarro’s article revolved around selecting a major. The NCAA has certain rules for declaring majors and completing percentages of course work. Pressure from athletic advisors who are more concerned with eligibility than meaningful learnings and work, is not entirely something I faced in college, but I have several friends who could not choose the major of their choice because classes were only offered during practices or because travel would cause them to miss too many classes for a course. Where I would apply the findings from the research is adjusting working with revenue versus nonrevenue sports. The revenue sports are the sports that bring in money to the school and have possibilities of becoming professional with the opportunity to make millions of dollars. The goals of the revenue athletes are likely to be more focused on sports as a future, while the nonrevenue athlete does not have the same potential future earning in their sport and is looking for a career that still satisfies their athletic and competitive inclinations. It is important to me as a counselor to have this knowledge and tailor my work to suit their needs and realities. Student-athletes tend to have an identity…

The coach also has a lot of knowledge in this field as well because they have to set up realistic goals, help build confidence, and also need to evaluate the athlete before they should let them back to game style play. Statistics say that it has nothing to do with the physical therapist; it is all a mental thing that athletes go through when they have an injury that will put them out of the season. The coaches are supposed to have some kind of strategy that they have when someone is coming back from an injury so they don’t get hurt again and or they aren’t scared.…

Athletic training is a career that can only be practiced by athletic trainers. This is because all jobs in the athletic field play a specific part and a different role in athletics (Albohm, 2009). Another reason why athletic training is only practiced by athletic trainers is because many people confuse physical therapists and with athletic trainers. The difference is that physical therapists are therapist who treats injuries or dysfunctions with exercises and other physical treatments of the disorder. An athletic trainer is a certified health care professional who practices in the field of medical athletic training. In the field of athletic training, the main goal is to prevent, diagnose, and treat injuries and illnesses of any kind dealing with sports. Athletic trainers work with people of all ages and all skill levels, from young children to soldiers and professional athletes. The reason why athletic trainers work with people of different backgrounds, is because they work in many different job settings.
