A sports medicine physician does a number of jobs and tasks. They diagnose, treat, and help patients who have participated in sporting events or other physical activities. They are trained to deal with issues associated with substance abuse, nutrition, and sports psychology. They can work in a number of places ,including hospitals, clinics, high schools, or professional sports organizations. You can become one of the two types of sports medicine physicians, orthopedic surgeons or primary care physicians. You don’t have to be an athlete to have this job, you can just be a person who is interested in sports or medicine.

There are many classes that should be taken in high school that will prepare for this career ,including english, languages, humanities, social studies, mathematics, in addition to biology, chemistry, and physics. Once you go on to college, there are many schools to choose from. Some of these schools are East Carolina University, Appalachian State, and Gardner-Webb University. They highly recommend taking a 4 year undergraduate school, 4 years of MED school, and 3-8 years of internship and residency.
