Most people do not know about athletic trainers and their jobs. Therefore,“They are the unsung hero’s of sports medicine”, says writer Vincent O’Brien. Their not credited enough for the challenging labor they undertake. To understand more about athletic trainers, a person needs to know about the careers available, the jobs they do, and the benefits they provide, so that they can acknowledge the importance of athletic trainers in the field of medicine. Athletic trainers have a vast variety of careers available to them. They can work with several pro-sports like baseball, soccer, and football. Sometimes they even have an assistant to help them care for the players,(Athletic Trainer). Occasionally in an Athletic trainer's career they can be called to teach about what they can accomplish, while also informing their audience about healthy eating habits and how to properly exercise. The Explore Health website says,”The American Medical Association has recognized athletic training as an allied health care profession since 1990. If you become an athletic trainer, your job prospects are good: According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics(BLS), this field is projected to grow,”(“Athletic Trainer”). They assist athletes with avoiding unnecessary medical treatment and disruption of normal daily activities. They also inspect equipment and choose the proper protective equipment for the athletes. Trainers must tape, pad, wrap, bandage, or brace limps or muscles of players to protect from injury. They are the ones to evaluate injuries and decide if the athlete needs further medical treatment. Athletic trainers develop conditioning and injury rehabilitation programs. Trainers make the hard choice when players are fit to compete. (Athletic Discover) Athletic Trainers work under the supervision of a licensed physician. The supervision ranges from discussing specific injuries and treatment options to performing evaluations and treatments as directed by a physician. They also may have administrative responsibilities. These can include meetings with an athletic director to deal with purchases, budgets, and policy implementation. (Bureau) Schedules vary by work setting. Athletic trainers may have to work six or seven days a week, including late hours.     Being an athletic trainer means working with athletes which means sports related injuries. A few common foot injuries are turf toe and heel contusion. Turf toe is a sprain of the plantar capsular ligament of the first MTP joint (The big toe). This can be caused by repetitively jamming your toe into the end of your shoe.
