Did you know that most kids play a first-person role in killing someone? Granted, it may be on a television, but it is your kid that is making it all happen. Kids everywhere are playing mature rated video games. These games are playing a very interesting role in our children’s lives. Violent video games should not be allowed: they are leaving kids immature, making kids have violent and inappropriate thoughts, and encouraging bad behavior in young kids.

A report, based on data from Singapore, found that kids who play violent video games end up showing more aggression later on in life, and more often believe that hitting is acceptable. There was a three-year study that included 3000 kids, ages eight to 17, and asked them questions like how often do they play video games on weekends and weekdays, or would they hit someone else when provoked. Kids also reported how much their parents control the time they can play games. “Children who played more violent video games tended to have more fantasies about violence and to think violence in real life was more acceptable, according to results published in JAMA Pediatrics” (Doyle). Younger kids seemed to have a larger increase in aggressive thought linked to video game play than older kids. Theres no evidence yet that violent video games are linked to bullying, fighting, or school shootings. “Ybarra believes there is a growing consensus that violent games may be tied to aggression and that violent thought might be the intermediate step in the relationship.” (Doyle) It’s hard to draw any recommendations from this particular study, but its probably a good idea to do what you can to limit your kids’ exposure to violent video …show more content…
After some practice, each one played a violent video game (Grand Theft Auto 3 or Grand Theft Auto San Andreas) or a non-violent one (Pinball 3D or Mini Golf 3D) for 35 minutes.
