It took President Lincoln several years to abolish slavery. Slavery was very popular in the southern states ,because slavery was one of the primary sources of their economy. The slaves were also the primary source of labor in the southern states. They worked the fields on the plantations. When Lincoln found out the southern states were winning the war, he had to call for a “game changer” on the southern states. Lincoln’s “game changer” was to abolish the primary source of the south’s economy, slavery. Lincoln worked countless hours of forming the Emancipation Proclamation, which free all slaves in the south excluding the bordering states from north to south.
