Transcript of How My Brother Leon Brought Home a Wife summary
Baldo and his older brother Leon were both waiting for the arrival of their visitor riding the carretela. Seeing his brother's wife, Baldo was easily taken away by the beauty of the woman from city as he narrates their journey to Nagrebcan. The idea of meeting with Leon's parents for the first time made Maria a bit anxious. But along their way home, Maria discovered the peculiarities of the life in Nagrebcan as opposed to their life in the city where she met and fell in love with Leon.
Leon and his wife, Maria, arrived at the bario and met with Leon’s brother, Baldo. Leon’s entire family talked with Maria. Baldo stated that his Father’s voice became livelier as he talks to Maria. Baldo is ignoring his brother’s question about why did they have to go to the Waig instead of the Camino Real Baldo and his Father had a convresation about what happen while they are travelling. Maria was afraid that Leon’s father may not accept her to be his daughter-in-law because she may not able to cope the life in province.

    On the surface, Patria is portrayed as the most mundane of the Mirabal sisters because she is very religious and family-oriented character. However, Alvarez uses these characteristics and emphasizes on the events that led up to her loss of faith in order to shape her motivations for joining the revolution. In the beginning of the novel, Patria had no interest in being part of the revolution. However, her views change when surprise invasion when she was on a religious retreat. During the explosions, Patria witnesses a traumatic event when she looks out the window and witnesses the death of a young boy.
