How Philosophies That Impacted My Life
Through the stories that I listened to as a child, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, the Little Mermaid, and Pinocchio, the philosophies that were demonstrated impacted my life. They influenced the way I approach decision making in social situations such as school and family life. The true meaning of these fables are meant to help children decipher right from wrong and influence good behavior and decision making. The media also has an increasing impact on the society I grew up in as well from television shows, commercials, and songs. There are many different philosophies that have impacted my life and the reason why I am who I am today. Through …show more content…
Morality is a private affair and any moral decision that is truly your own is right for you. Because of this, I believe that women are individuals who have a say in their own bodies and should be given the choice if they would like to keep their child. Since the deontological theory states that what we do as a means to an end is important, Aerie and Dove ultimately tries to sell

From television to magazines the mass media is all around us, silently shaping society. Many people do not realize how much media can influence how they view the world. Children are the most vulnerable to the media’s influence. Through their daily consumption of television, literature, and culture, their cultural lens is being formed. Some influences the media have are unintentional however; many individuals are using the influence of media to shape generations. An example of an individual is the world-renown author Dr. Seuss. This man did more than write books that purely entertained children. When looking into his stories one can find that he addressed a social issue in most of his stories. He used his creative and unusual style of writing to slyly influence the life of children for generations. One of his more blatantly sociological books was The Star-Bellied Sneetches and Other Stories. Later becoming a movie, this story told a tale of seemingly naive creatures that learned tolerance. However, when taking a closer look, one can there is so much more being revealed. A great work of art that has a great impact on my life is the novel A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickson. The story tells of a cold hearted, selfish business man named Ebenezer Scrooge, who is visited by his deceased business partner Jacob Marley and three ghosts on Christmas Eve. Jacob Marley who chained tells Scrooge that he should change his way or he will be punished in the after life. Marley beged for Scrooge to be given a chance to change. The ghost’s job is to persuade Scrooge to change his ways to avoid punishment in the afterlife. The three ghosts show Scrooge past, present, and future events that help Scrooge realize he is wrong and changes Scrooge into a better person. The story has had an impact on my life in many ways. The story taught me that a person’s behavior is a product of their past. If a person is unkind, it is the events that happened in their past that has made them who they are. It’s a reminder that showing compassion toward unkind people can make them a happier. The story has also taught me to treat people with kindness and respect. Lastly the story has taught me to always help the less fortunate because a little kindness can change a person's life.…
