The first document is The Abolition of Slavery 1777-1865. The slavery numbers went down and eventually the last slave died or was set free. Some examples include four states, Rhode Island, …show more content…
Connecticut, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. In Rhode Island the law passed in 1784 and the last slave died or was freed in 1842. Next is Connecticut which the law was passed in 1784 and the last slave died or was freed 1848. Then we have New Jersey, the law passed in 1804 ad the last slave died or was freed in 1846. Lastly is Pennsylvania, the law passed in 1780 and the last slave died or was freed in 1850. This document shows that once the Revolution was over people started to abolish things that were not fair or equal including slavery. These four states caught on very quickly but some others did not. Although some did not catch on right away they eventually caught on and learned that abolishing slavery was the right thing to do. This shows that the American Revolution changed the way we looked at slaves. If not for the American Revolution we may still have slavery today, we may not be where we are in life. The American Revolution changed slavery forever, from the way we treated them to the way we looked at them. The American Revolution changes this because during the war all of the people including slaves had to work together to defeat the British so that the colonist could become independent. When all of the people including the slaves worked together it changed the way they looked at each other. All four of these states and many more abolished slavery because of the American Revolution. They all eventually passed the law that there could be no more new slaves in the state. The American Revolution caused the new government to make so many new laws including this one. This is another way that the American Revolution changed many people forever. It is just one more reason that the American Revolution is truly revolutionary.
Another document is Billards in Hanover-Town (Virginia) This document shows people from different classes playing games together and having some fun.
It shows that just because they are completely different it does not mean they can not talk or play games with each other. I was not always like this though. Before the American Revolution it was surely not like this. The different class would be separated almost like they were in different rooms. They would rarely look at each other forget talking to each other. All of the class just thought that because they were not alike that they couldn’t be friends, talk to each other, or be in the same room. but the American Revolution changed that. After the American Revolution it all changed, instead of living like they did not know each other they actually started talking and getting to know each other a bit more. Although they were not very similar they found what was the same, they were all people who were just fighting for their beliefs. That all changed with the American Revolution. They were and still are fighting for the same cause and that is why they are not completely different and we respect each other. This is just another example of why the American Revolution was so
revolutionary.
Lastly is document the United States Constitution, Amendment 19. This stated “The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on the account of sex” This is showing that all people are allowed to vote. Women are finally allowed to vote after all of that time. This does contribute to the fact that the American Revolution was in fact revolutionary because although it did not occur directly after the war it was still a effect of the war. It shows a small part of the statement all men are created equal including the women. The document is showing that the women are becoming a part of the statement all men are created equal. Once again the American Revolution changed the way people look at women today. The war made people realize that the women may not be like men but they are fighting for the same causes and they also had to fight for simple rights such as voting along with the rights men were fighting for. Now the women have the same rights as men. The American Revolution made this happen. This is the final document that supports the fact that the American Revolution was in fact revolutionary.
Was the American Revolution really revolutionary? In conclusion, after going though these documents it is obvious that the American Revolution was indeed described as revolutionary.
