In the dispute of sugar, one debatable issue has been whether sugar is beneficial or harmful to the world. People who believe sugar is harmful argue that it is one cause of diabetes. On the other hand, those who believe that sugar is beneficial claim that sugar taste good and it is in every food so it cannot be avoided. Sugar has not had a positive impact on the world because it causes obesity, diabetes, and sugar also helped promote slavery in the past. What is your view on how sugar has affected the world?
Sugar is harmful to animals of all kinds it is one of the causes of a harmful disease, diabetes. Dogs, cats, horses, humans, and many other animals die from diabetes every day. Some people get diabetes
from their sugar and food consumption and others cannot prevent it because it is hereditary. “While the incidence of diabetes has increased roughly sevenfold.” (Bornstein, Paragraph 1) Diabetes rates have increased 7 times in the past 50 years. The arthur David Bornstein believes “that “we’ve misunderstood the cause.” (Bornstein, Paragraph 15) We all blame no exercise and not enough “healthy food” as we may call it. Healthy food is natural food that is thought to have health-giving qualities but it can also lead to obesity/death. We don't actually look at what is in our foods. “Added sugar also sneaks into seemingly “better for you” beverages, such as sports drinks, fruit drinks, and flavored milks.” (American Heart Society). We think labels such as low calorie, sugar free, fat free, and diet/zero means that it won’t affect us as much as regular food or drinks. Which is wrong because in a straberry in a Diabetes also affects our insulin. Bornstein stated in his article, “We secrete insulin in response to carbohydrates in our diet and there's a condition called insulin resistance that is the fundamental defect in Type 2 diabetes and is closely associated with obesity that we can speculate that it might be the cause.” (Bornstein, Paragraph 9). Insulin resistance is when your body cannot properly digest or break down sugar. Insulin resistance can cause death but it is also manageable but not curable.
Sugar also is a leading cause of obesity. Most of America is obese because of the diet that a normal American will eat. Most families if they're busy will just pick up something to eat from a fast food chain, such as McDonalds or Wendys. According to the American Heart Association, “Sugar-sweetened beverages are the biggest source of added sugar in the American diet. Other sources are baked item (like cakes, muffins, cookies and pies), ice cream and candy.” (American Heart Association). The drinks that Americans drink have added sugars which probably most of us don't realize.
