The idea of hydrogen being used in blimps came out in the mid eighteen hundreds. This German airship standing at eight hundred and three feet long ( known as the Hindenburg) was filled with the hydrogen. There are many theories of how the explosion ignited. Between lighting, static spark, and engine failure, I believe the engine failure is what ignited the fire. So there it was, souring at an altitude of three hundred feet, at seven twenty five pm the Hindenburg ignited. The monster burst into flames rushing to the ground. The huge blimp burn completely to the ground in an astonishing thirty seven seconds! Out of the ninety seven people, only sixty one survived. Cory Scarola stated, " Thirty six were killed and sixty two survived, only one of whom is still alive." The only reason the death tole was so low for such a big explosion was because, the cockpit is at the bottom of a blimp. So, when it hit the ground, most people just ran out. After that horrible incident, they never used hydrogen again. Thus, leading to the production of the …show more content…
Cory Scarola clearly states, " Not two years before the Hindenburg met its end, in November nineteen thirty five, a Pan Am china clipper aircraft completed an eight thousand mile flight." Most of us humans know what the airplane is. It is the big metal structure with a few turbines .Sometimes jets can even travel up to a couple thousand mile per hour. That is extremely fast. Back to the original airplanes, they were made out just a couple wood wings, and a tail wing that was movable. They also had engines of course with a few mechanical controls. It is what we use to transport many different things, including humans. We have been using airplanes since the very early nineteen hundreds to transport goods and to even help us during war. They are on the main sources of defense. Imagine blimps trying to be used as fighter planes, or should I say fighter blimps. That would be a rather amusing sight to see, but we wouldn't get anywhere. In other words, planes might not have been invented if it weren't for the
