After spending the past year learning writing techniques from Professor Kruse in Composition I and II, I now possess writing skills that will help me succeed in my future college classes. The Little Brown Handbook has been a helpful resource, and I will continue to utilize it in my future writing. Also The Craft of Research has been a helpful tool especially for understanding the vocabulary of acknowledgment and response. I know I have the skills needed to be successful because of my planning, drafting, editing and revising skills I have acquired. The first reason that I possess the writing skills necessary to succeed in college is because of the skills I acquire to plan my essay. In chapter three of The Little Brown Handbook, it helped give me ideas on how to draft my essays and papers. The author explains that “there are many different drafting styles, but the only correct one is the one that works for you”. When drafting for my essays I first start with the body paragraphs, and write strong topic sentences for each body paragraph. Starting with the body paragraphs is a good way to start because I know the information I am going to be writing about. Then I write ideas for each of the body paragraphs and out the in-text citation in the essay. When writing the body paragraphs, I start to type all my thoughts out so I can have a start for the essay. The introduction and concluding paragraphs are always the hardest to come up with ideas for which is why I write these last in my draft.
