If you have read my lecture on how to write a five paragraph essay as well as Chapter 4 of The Wadsworth Handbook, then you know that the best writing results when you take the time to go through each step of the writing process.
What is your typical writing process? What kinds of writing challenges have you had to face in your life? How did you approach them? Was your approach successful?
Your first paper assignment is to write a Literacy Narrative, which is an autobiographical narrative essay that details educational experiences in order to make a point.

Getting started:
PLAN: The first step of the writing process is the planning stage. Pre-writing activities are the focus of this stage of the process. Use the brainstorming prompts in the instructions to spark ideas or free write on the subject of your own education for fifteen minutes or so to see what you come up with. Once you have a point of focus, you need to formulate a working thesis. The thesis for a narrative essay is the narrative theme or narrative point. It is not enough to tell a story--there has to be a reason for telling it, an insight you want to communicate, a serious point you want to make.
SHAPE: Once you know your specific focus and main idea, you can begin to organize the support for the paper. A typical sequence for an autobiographical narrative

    Essay 1 Literacy Narrative Overview of the Assignment In this first essay, you will be writing a what is known as a Literacy Narrative.
