How To Buy A Mattress Online
After my post about mattress shopping the other day, Garrison contacted me. “My home just flooded and due to renters insurance I was thrown into the market for a new mattress,” he said. “I called up my long-time best friend whose entire family is in the mattress business. I used his advice in my purchase and I’ve been completely satisfied.” Here’s what Garrison’s friend, Justin, had to say.
I’ve written a lot here to help you buy a mattress. Once I started thinking about this, all sorts of information came back to me. Here are a few things to keep in mind:
When purchasing a new bed, make sure you lay down on it to find the perfect comfort level for you. Many times people who choose pillowtop mattresses find that the mattress is too soft once they get it home. To help you avoid this, lay down in the bed in the position that you sleep in to ensure it suits your comfort levels.
Make sure there is at least a 30-day trial period. This is a deal-breaker and you should absolutely not purchase a bed without this guaranty, no matter what else they are offering. Most beds take 4-6 weeks of sleep to really break in and feel how they are going to feel long-term. Don’t give up on a bed after a few bad nights right away. Your body will have to adjust to the new bed.
If you are in the market for a new mattress, make sure that you lay on a few before you buy. There are many mattresses that look very good, but they may not be exactly what you think. Laying on a few will give you a good idea of what you should be expecting.
You should only use a bed about 10 years. Don’t pay more for a bed just because it has a warranty longer than that. The one exception would be a Magic Koil -brand bed. Those come with long warranties and should last longer than 10 years.
When you are shopping for a mattress, ask the sales rep to see if you can test it for 30 days at no risk. The only way that you can really tell if an expensive mattress is right for you is by sleeping on it. Just keep the

There is a huge range of quality out there; from the very cheap and frail to intricately woven, carefully designed models that will stand the tests of time and comfort. Also, they should give clear descriptions of the quality and origin of their hammocks. Look for a website that is easy and simple to order from. If just buying a hammock is complicated, try to imagine what returning one might be like. Also, a good hammock company should offer some diagrams or tips on how to use or hang their hammocks. This is a good indication of a company that knows its stuff and is trying to be…

Starting from birth, and for the first year of life, place your baby on her back at night time and for naps. Do not use sleep positioners or rolled up blankets to keep your baby on her back. These items can cause your baby to suffocate. When she can turn over on her own, you don’t need to return her to the back position. Use a firm, flat surface for sleep. (Canadian Pediatric Society Caring for Kids, 2010). Waterbeds, air mattresses, pillows, couches/sofas or soft materials are not safe sleep surfaces for babies. Babies can turn onto their side or stomach and bury their face in these soft materials, not getting enough air to breathe. Car seats and infant carriers should not replace the crib for your baby’s sleep. Keep soft materials out of your baby’s sleep environment. Items that should not be in the crib include quilts, comforters, bumper pads, stuffed animals, pillows and other pillow-like items. Make sure your baby is not too warm. Instead of a blanket, use light sleeping clothing for your baby such as a one-piece sleeper, if the room is cool. (Canadian Pediatric Society Caring for Kids, 2010). Breastmilk is the only food your baby needs for the first 6 months of…

Although taboo in Western culture, co-sleeping is making a comeback. After the retraction of previous statements against co-sleeping, Dr. Richard Ferber, child sleep guru, has now sided with a family’s decision to share a bed with their infants. Although the American Society of Pediatrics warns that sleeping with your infant can increase the risk of sudden infant death syndrome, the exact cause of SIDS is still unknown. The emotional benefits of sharing a bed with your baby can be enormous and some would argue that engaging in co-sleeping strengthens the bond between parent and child.…

Sleeping with a baby seemed normal to me. I never thought about dangers or how it could go wrong. Right now I have 5 nephews, and each of them I know their mother ended up sleeping in the same bed, or on the couch with them, when they were breastfeeding. Even when I baby sat, I would sometimes fall asleep with them in my arms when they were young. There are many different views on co-sleeping, and the detriment/ benefits of it. Co-sleeping is defined as a parent and baby share a bed, according to the March of Dimes. There are obvious reasons why sleeping with your baby could result badly: getting trapped by the bed frame, falling off the bed, being smothered by blankets, or getting rolled on (March of Dimes, 1). But a big question that arose…

    Bed Wetting

Like chalk and cheese, boys and girls are different in so many ways and bedwetting is no different. Nocturnal bedwetting affects twice as many boys as girls. Experts are not exactly sure why but there have been medical studies done which suggest that girls tend to develop bladder control before boys. Dr. Michael Ritchey, a Pediatric urologist, agrees and says this could be attributed to the fact that the pressure to urinate is higher in boys, affecting their ability to hold urine. In most cases bedwetting is caused by a slower than normal development of the child’s bladder control.…
