How To Kill A Mocking Bird Analysis
Arrticus from “How to Kill a Mocking Bird” by Harper Lee is a good man that loves his children and is pretty much flawless, but his biggest flaw is being a racist. His children think he chose Tom Robinson's case but the truth is that “Arrticus “hoped to get through life without a case of this kind, but [judge] John Taylor pointed at [him] and said, ‘You’re It.’””(117 Lee). He knows the outcome will be a loss, but he continues to try because he values equality and justice in the legal system. After meeting Tom, Arrticus still supports his friend Walter Cunningham who is a farmer and is “part of a [lynch] mob” called the “Old Sarum”. One can say he choose to do the case which is true, but the question should be why Arrticus choose only Tom’s

In Harper Lee’s novel “To Kill a Mockingbird” racism is a common thread in the community and is never more apparent than in this chapter. Tom Robinson is subjected to an unfair disadvantage throughout this novel, from the mob that comes after him at the Maycomb county jail to the results of his trial. Atticus states in chapter 10, “it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird,” this comes back into play as Tom’s innocence is constantly ignored because of his skin color. Tom Robinson may be the minority but it should not make him any less innocent than any white man on the witness stand. It is a distinct aura throughout Tom’s trial that he is not innocent until proven guilty, solely because of he is black. Across the plot Atticus is constantly…

To Kill a Mockingbird has multiple major themes that are outcomes of significant scenes throughout the book. One of the most well-known scene is the trial scene where Tom Robinson is found guilty for a crime he did not commit. Because Scout and Jem were at the trial, the verdict deeply affected their view on the goodness of the people of Maycomb. Lee throughout the novel explores the concept of human morality, the inherent goodness or malevolence of people and how it can have a positive or negative affect on people. Lee achieves this through the coming of age and development of Jem and Scout, and through the effect that human morality has on the characterization of the mockingbirds, Boo Radley…

In “To Kill a Mockingbird”, Atticus is a wise lawyer, who endeavours to have a fair trial for Tom Robinson. Tom is a black man accused of raping a white girl. The time is within the early 30s taken place in southern Alabama. The townspeople believed that Atticus shouldn’t present a proper defence for a Negro. However, Atticus fully intends to do so because he believes in equal rights of others. Due to this strong belief he encounters many vicious comments directed towards himself and the people supporting him. He is wise enough to know the trouble this case will bring him. “… Simply by the nature of work, every lawyer gets at least one case in his lifetime that affects him personally this one’s mine, I guess” This quote helps to emphasise that…

He is accused of raping a young white woman. As rumor got around that Atticus was defending a black man, many people started to insult Atticus, which caused him to lose strength and confidence. Around his neighborhood, he is characterized by a man who treats everyone as if they were family. When he heard that these people were judging him, he showed signs of doubtfulness. Atticus was hesitant about making the right choice for defending Robinson. Another sign of losing creative energy is when the jury picks the choice of whether or not Tom Robinson is guilty. Even though Atticus clearly showed that the plaintiff was the one who did the crime, conformity influenced the jury of making Tom Robinson guilty only for the reason that he was…

“In literature, evil often triumphs, but never conquers” in famous novels like “Speak” by Laurie Halse Anderson or “To Kill A Mockingbird” by Harper Lee. The evil is considered the major issues brought upon the protagonists by the antagonists (when comparing these two novels), such as the character of Andy Evans in Speak and Bob Ewell in To Kill a Mockingbird. However, the protagonists always found a way to conquer with the good, and will always shine brighter than the evil.…

Tom Robinson, an African-American man, is put on trial for the rape of a nineteen year old girl. Since those in the court system look down upon colored people, his trial is not fair from the start. Both the judge and the members of the jury are white, southern males, and these people do not like African Americans because they believe that they do not deserve to be treated like people and have actual human rights.. For example Tom says to Atticus, “Yes, suh. I felt sorry for her…” (164). At this point Tom was basically digging his own…

Atticus’ decision to defend Tom Robinson shows a ton of courage. Since the story takes place during segregation, a white man defending a black man is frowned upon. It’s simply unusual for a white man, such as Atticus, to defend a negro in Maycomb County, especially in the 1930’s. Yet, once appointed to Tom, Atticus steps to the plate and does a fine job of defending him. Atticus came into the case knowing that there wasn’t much hope for Tom Robinson, being it’s a black man’s word against a white man’s. Even with that knowledge, he continued the case and strived to prove Tom wasn’t guilty…
