Knowing the right way to prepare your horse before riding, proper tacking, and grooming helps keep you safe. Competing in events is enjoyable and it’s one way to bond with your horse. Having a connection with your horse always makes it more enjoyable and it helps you compete better.
Grooming
You should always groom your horse before riding because if you don’t there could be mud on their back or on their girth area. Mud could cause them to be uncomfortable and that could also lead to your horse acting out and not listening to you. This could lead to somebody getting hurt. Some of the events I personally like are barrel racing, poles and trail. These events are based on a pattern and you don’t just have to complete the pattern but it’s on how well you do and how well you and your horse work together. Barrels and poles aren't just on these things but they are also timed events. So how they judge you on the timing part is if you knock a barrel or pole down, that adds like five seconds to your time that you got for completing the pattern. Trail is a little different because it’s still a pattern that you complete but it’s not timed and you get points taken off if your horse doesn’t do one of the obstacles.
Western horseback riding can be fun and educational at the same time. You can go to as many competitions as you want or you can just ride for fun but to do this you have to know how to put the saddle and bridle on. You should also know you need to groom your horse before tacking. If you don’t groom or don’t tack your horse right it will cause them discomfort and you and your horse won’t compete as well and you may end up flying off into the
