General Purpose: To Inform
Specific Purpose: To inform my audience how to start a hobby
Central Idea: In order to start a hobby you must first find an interest, not give up on it, and be proud of your hobby.
Introduction
I. Who in here has a hobby?
II. Today I’m going to teach you how to start a hobby.
III. My mother, Christy Martin, started extreme couponing about two years ago and I noticed how it made her very happy and excited, so I decided to get a hobby which is collecting shot glasses.
IV. I’d like to tell you teach you how to find an interest for a hobby, how to not give up on a hobby, and how to be proud of your hobby.
Transition: Starting a hobby can be difficult if you don’t know what interests you.
Body
I. First you must think of something that interests you
A. Can be a sport, collection, couponing, etc.
B. You can make anything a hobby
Transition: As we all know keeping a hobby going can be difficult sometimes, which brings me to my next point
II. There are many ways you can keep your hobby going.
A. Make a tradition out of it.
B. Make your hobby a habit
Transition: Being proud of your hobby will make you want to do it that much more.
III. Your hobby can and will pay off
A. If you’re not proud of your hobby then why have it?
B. My mother is an extreme couponer and as embarrassing as it is I wouldn’t have half the stuff I do; or go to half the places I go.
Conclusion
I. Let me end with this
II. I have explained to you how to find an interest, how to not give up on your hobby, and how to be proud of your hobby.
III. Now that you know how to start a hobby I hope you apply these steps at home.
