Scout isn’t like most of the girls her age, with pink dresses and tea parties, she’s a tomboy. To Kill A Mockingbird is based on a true story, The Scottsboro Case. Tom Robinson was a black man accused of raping a teenaged white girl. Atticus Finch, the defending lawyer, has two kids named Scout and Jem. Jean Louise “Scout” Finch, is a very smart girl for her age, passing most of her grade in everything. Scouts character in To Kill A Mockingbird is outgoing, smart, and hot-tempered.
First off, Scout is very smart for her age. In the book her teacher tells her that she can’t read at home anymore, that’s how far ahead of her class that she is. In the book Miss Caroline says, “Now you tell your father not to teach
you any more. It’s best to begin reading with a fresh mind”(Harper 19.) Scout then tells her that her father doesn’t teach her how to read, but she doesn’t say that he reads to her almost every night before bed. Scout is also able to write in cursive before some of her classmates can barely write normally. Scout’s intelligence is shown in many ways throughout To Kill A Mockingbird. Secondly, Scout is very curious in the novel. Scout asks Dill, “How old are you?” and then later in chapter one she comments about his father, “If he isn’t dead, then you got one don’t you?” (Harper 8.)Scout always wants to be on top of everything in the story. In that instance she sort of invading his privacy and his personal life. In another part of the story she talks to Atticus about the Tom Robinson case in deep detail using the word N***** many times. Scout expresses curiosity in many ways in the book . Last off, Scout gets pretty mad in some parts of the book. In chapter nine she almost beats up Cecil and Francis because they said that her dad defended N****** and that she was a coward. Scout seems like a cute girl, but if she gets angry, she will hurt you. Scout is lucky that her tendency to get in fights, or get angry, hasn’t gotten her in a lot of trouble.
