People felt comfortable showing who they really were. One of the things I enjoyed the most about attending American Canyon High was the spirit the school had when it came to school rallies and planning class activities. During their spirit weeks, the school would play music during lunch and it was amazing seeing everyone get together and just dance. It brought everyone together and made the school seem very close. Furthermore, during my senior year, part of my senior class got the opportunity to attend the grad night event which took place in Napa. I was extremely excited about attending because I got to be with my senior class and reunite with those I had previously gone to school with. Like I had mentioned before, everyone got together and danced. One of the things I noticed while attending this event was that as everyone was dancing, the majority of the people on the dance floor were my current classmates and standing up against the walls were my previous classmates, looking at us demonstrating we were not the same and were not one of them. This gave me a sense of where I use to be and where I stood now. I was no longer a part of them and was not classified as a “Napa kid,” I was “one of them.” I was different and was glad to be. It improved my life and gave me the opportunity to try new things and be open to more opportunities and I feel that has made me a better person. I now realize that changing schools was probably one of the best things that had happened to me and I can see the difference between the two environments I lived even though they were only 15 minutes away. While I loved the school as well as the people I grew up with I noticed I was not open to very much at the time. And I am grateful for getting to meet new people and getting a chance to learn about their cultures. Sometimes the obstacles you face can alter your life as well as make you a better
