Cave drawings show that seafood was important to survival. During this time period most people lived a hunter gatherer life style. Fishing became a natural source of food to survive on. Spearfishing with a barbed pole was one of the first ways of fishing. Neolithic culture and technology was spread worldwide between 4,000 to 8,000 years ago. They created new technologies such as farming and pottery. After that came the basic forms of the main fishing methods which are still used today.
The Industrial Revolution had a large role on fishing. The largest role it played was the mass production of the rod, reel, and line. It became a business for the world to use.
