How To Write An Essay About Texting And Driving
Many people get hurt daily because of either them or someone else using their phone while driving. I think driving while using a handheld cell phone should be illegal. Three main reasons I think this is because sending a text while driving can cause many injuries or fatalities, having a phone in the car with someone is very distracting, and the use of a cell phone in the car with someone is not needed until they reach their destination. First texting and driving can cause a collision where not only the person at fault gets hurt, but an innocent person could possibly get hurt or even killed because of one simple text. Many people argue saying it was not their fault or it was an accident that the crash happened. Although it may have been an accident, it could have been avoided completely if that person …show more content…
Changing a song on the phone is also very distracting because if someone takes their attention off of the road for a few seconds, they might not see a child dart right in front of their car. Finally while someone is driving, sending an emoticon or a text can wait until they reach their destination. It is not as important as life or death. Although some people say when their is an extreme situation, sending a text while driving is necessary. I do not see this as okay, but I believe if there is an emergency with family or friends, then that person should go help out; they do not need to text while driving because they are on their way to the situation. If someone finds out something important while in the car driving, then that person should pull over and figure things out. Texting while driving is not going to solve any of the emergencies or problems. In conclusion I think it should be illegal to drive and use a handheld cell phone at the same time. Terrible accidents and deaths, getting distracted very easily with a phone, and waiting to send a text until someone arrives at their destination are reasons why using a cell phone and

I agree that driving while using a handheld cellphone is bad because it can lead to a car crash, the driver isn't focused on the road, and not paying attention to other drivers and not all hands are on the wheel. One reason why I believe that driving with a cellphone should be illegal because it can lead to a serious car crash in some cases. The driver may not be focused on the road and they hit a car dead on. Another reason why I agree with driving with a cellphone is illegal because the driver may not be focused on driving. They most likely be focused on talking to someone on the phone, Face time , Facebook, Snap chat , Twitter. Some people will forget that they are driving if they are really into there phone. First of all, distraction is one of the major causes leading to accidents. From the moment of picking up the phone, to read a text, to the moment it is being put back down, there is a loss of sight from the road which could either result in a life threatening accident, or a lucky escape from a life threatening accident. A Nationwide survey has shown that 45 percent of Americans said they've either been hit or nearly hit by a driver on a cell phone (Saletan 2). It is a split second of loss of focus on the road that could cost someone their life. Texting while driving makes people lose vision from the road and makes them forget what is going on around them, and that is what makes it so dangerous. One study showed that “the more tasks you dump on drivers—listening, evaluating, answering questions—the worse they perform. They drift off course, miss cues, overlook hazards, and react slowly. It's the picture of a mind being sucked from one world into another”(Saletan 2). All of these add up to a series of events which can occur to a driver while texting behind the wheel who did not even notice what happened. That is when they suddenly look up and try to react in time while it is actually already too late to react, and they end up in an accident. People do not see the real danger of it until either they themselves experience a life threatening accident while texting and…

Even though it may seem like fun to be able to text or play a game while driving, it can ruin the driver or someone else's life forever. If an accident is caused and someone is killed there will be serious consequences for the person who caused the accident. This driver could receive the maximum amount of fines and typically will even get jail time. This would mar someone's reputations permanently as well because no one wants to be remembered as the person who decided to text and drive, and killed someone. Given all of the possible outcomes to using a device while driving, is beating a high score or talking to a friend actually worth all the trouble that could be gotten into? Overall, the use of handheld devices in cars should be illegal for multiple reasons. The use of cell phones while driving puts drivers and the people around them directly in harms way. This is because people cannot multitask very well, and tend to focus more on their phones than the road. This can later cause an accident that could get the driver into serious trouble. With all things considered, it is better to take away the option of using a handheld device while driving than to allow drivers themselves to make the decision…

Driving is a privilege, and in many cases this privilege is abused. Some people don’t take driving seriously and this often results in terrible accidents. Other innocent people sadly become victims of this carelessness. The U.S banned several acts that result in accidents such as drinking under the influence. Driving while under the influence was banned because it affects the drivers’ concentration. Doesn’t texting while driving do the same thing? When a driver is texting his/her focus is not on the road and at any moment the driver may lose control of their vehicle. Texting while driving should be banned in every state because it’s a dangerous act; this ban will decrease the amount of accidents caused by this act, and it will provide safety for fellow drivers.…

Every time you look down at your phone, your eyes are off the road for an average of 4.6 seconds. That is plenty of time for a crash to happen. Texting while driving is severely dangerous on the road while operating a vehicle. Texting while driving interrupts it cognitively as you think about the texting message instead of on the road. It interrupts it manually as your fingers type the message back to another person. It interrupts it visually as you look down at your phone. All of these are reasons why texting while driving should be illegal in every state. The government has started to realize that texting while driving is starting to become a nationwide problem. People do not need to communicate every second, every minute, and every hour of everyday. There are so many sad stories about texting while driving. A lot of innocent people are dying each day because of their actions or because of others and that should not be happening. Texting while driving is not worth killing or dying over! Texting while driving can and needs to wait until it is safe to do so. Don’t just think about yourself, think about all the other people who are operating a vehicle. Over the years cellphones and driving have both seen many changes. Both of these things have had major changes most people look at all the changes as great, but if the two are put together the outcome is not so great. Studies show that car accidents involving cellphones are one of the leading causes of death of women under the age of thirty-five (Moore). More and more people are using their phones while driving; not knowing they are putting not only their own lives in danger but also the lives of other drivers. There are those few people who do not use their phones while behind the wheel, but they have probably witnessed someone else doing it. There have been many laws passed in different state making it illegal to use phones while behind the wheel. Ever been stuck at a light behind somebody who is not paying attention because of their cell phone? It's annoying right. Well that might not be a problem anymore. Many states have banned the use of hand-held devices while driving. Knowing about all the people that have been killed in accidents involving cell phones, I one-hundred percent agree with this law. Using your cell phone while driving can lead to lack of focus on the road, especially among young drivers who are not as experienced as their adult counterparts. Driving takes an extreme amount of concentration, due to the many things that could happen on the road. From cars slamming on brakes in front of you, to people cutting in and out of traffic, you need to have your undivided…

Accidents happen everyday on the road. Some are from bad weather conditions, others are because the driver is under the influence of alcohol, and many are caused by distracted drivers on their cellular phone. If people were more aware of how many people are injured or killed by someone who was using their phone while driving , then they wouldn't use their own phone while driving. If making a law that says it is illegal to use a handheld phone and drive will make people stop becoming distracted while driving, then it should be put into effect. A solution for a driver who wants to use their phone while driving would be to use the hands free option on their phone, or to purchase a tool to hold the phone while driving.…

Texting and driving affects everybody in a threatening way. It only takes a maximum of five seconds for someone's attention to get taken off the road while texting. Texting makes a crash twenty three more times likely to happen. If one is dialing, texting, or listening on a phone behind the wheel, the likeliness of an accident happening is 2.8 times greater for every minute that goes by. For even just reaching for your phone an accident is 1.4 times more likely (“Texting and Driving Statistics”). Since this situation has the ability to create all of these accidents, then the consequence should clearly be…

In the state of Florida there is a legislation against using a cell phone while driving. The legislation says that while a person is texting while driving a police officer could do nothing unless you are being ticketed or stopped for another infraction. I find this law to be really scary because there are so many careless people who are driving while texting not having a care in the world who they will affect. To me, I consider driving while using the phone the same as driving while under the influence. Not only are you not focused on your driving and the people around you but youre not paying attention which are two things that can easily cause a minor accident or major accident. If a person is texting while driving and they hit someone…

Texting while driving is not a good habit, with just moving our eyes from the road to answer a simple message can cause someone life. According to Ian Mulgrew, a journalist author from Canada, many accidents are blamed on distracted driving and most of the distractions are caused by cell phone usage. There are many laws being established to try to prevent distracted driving from happening; although they can’t completely stop it. No matter what age of the driver is, under no circumstance should they be texting while driving. Texting or using a cell phone while driving is very hazardous to yourself and the people surrounding you. However, the lives of innocent people are being taken every day due to a simple distraction. According to Mulgrew, car crashes are four times more common to take place while the driver is on their mobile device over any other causes. According to Bret Schulte, talking on a cell phone is not as dangerous as texting these days.in addition, while talking on the phone, it is easier to still keep focused on the road in front of the driver. But when they engage in a text message, it’s not possible to look in both directions at once, therefore all of their focus goes straight to the screen of the cell phone. It’s hard for all drivers, especially teenagers, to put down the cell phone and put their hands on the wheel, which results in many car crashes.…
