The leadership of Walmart is Authentic Leadership which refers to individuals who know and understand themselves, who espouse and act consistent with higher order ethical values, and who empower and inspire others with their openness and authenticity. There are 5 key characteristics of authentic leaders, which are: (i) Authentic leaders pursue their purpose with passion, (ii) Authentic leaders practice solid values, (iii) Authentic leaders lead with their hearts as well their heads, (iv) Authentic leaders establish connect relationships, (v) Authentic leaders demonstrate self-discipline.
First characteristic is authentic leaders pursue their purpose with passion. To be authentic, leaders have to know the aim of their leadership. Leaders who lead without a purpose can easily fall prey to greed and the desires of the ego. When leaders demonstrate a high level of passion and commitment to purpose, they inspire commitment from followers. For example, Walmart cheer is a powerful symbol of Walmart’s team spirit and business philosophy rolled into one. The cheer is ideas from Sam Wilton which get from watching workers perform a motivational cheer and group calisthenics at a Korean tennis ball factory. Sam Wilton knows his job as a leader to motivate their worker to be more efficient in their job to achieve the goal. He knows the aim of his leadership by created that idea for his associate. The pursuit of purpose with passion is important to be a good manager. If they do not know their job and the worker will not motivated and efficient in their work. Leader must monitor their worker to do their job in a proper way to make sure the worker achieve the goal.
