I’ve always heard that it only takes one person to make a difference in this world, and that one person is going to be me. I matter in this world because, I’m a loving wife, and wonderful mother to my two children. Although I’m not a wealthy person, I can describe myself as an ambitious, generous, vivacious and very eager to learn woman. I have a few goals in life, and one was to teach my children that just because they don’t have money, it doesn’t mean they don’t have wealth. Being born in the country or the city doesn’t make people what or who they are, but how they are raised with morals and values makes the person who they become. Everyone in the world matters, not because of what they do, but by simply who they are.…
The 20th century was a time of great change in the way women were perceived as members of Australian society. A notable example of a person who helped to bring about this change is the feminist Vida Goldstein, who campaigned for women’s suffrage and social reform in regards to gender inequality. She was an influential leader in the history of Australia’s feminist movement, and her actions were critical in the formation of the gender equal society we live in today.…
“The best wat to not feel hopeless is to get up and do something. Don’t wait for good things to happen to you. If you go out and make some good things happen, you will fill the world with hope, you will fill yourself with hope.” – Barack Obama. This quote by Barack Obama, relates to the movie Pay It Forward by Mimi Leder made in 2000, in the way that Trevor did not wait for good to happen to him, he just went out and started helping out. The little boy Trevor wants to start a movement called pay it forward, were one person helps another person and that one person has to help out three other people and so forth. Paying it forward could actually work in real life, but we need someone to actually start the movement, which is the first step to…
The pillar of scholarship has influenced me since before I was inducted into the National Honor Society. From this pillar I adopted the attitude that every aspect of academics and knowledge requires the full devotion of myself and my time. I have learned that the true value of the pillar of scholarship is to educate individuals of the capabilities and success that only continuous education can provide.…

“Hello,” said a kind face to me as I entered my first eighth-grade class at a new school. “Hello,” I said back, not knowing how to take the gesture. I walked into a classroom full of new faces. Everyone was gawking at the new kid. I thought to myself, “is it what I’m wearing? Do I look weird? Should I say something?” I did nothing but go to my assigned seat, and sat quietly just like I did on the bus months prior. As I sat in silence, I listened intently as the teacher floated across the room while calling roll. When I heard my name called, I tried to muster up the courage to address myself in a casual way, but I’m sure that it came out as a nervous “here.” As she finished roll call, each student was handed a mountain of forms and papers. Then the class slowly transformed into a parade of shouts and laughter. Everyone was welcoming each other back, except for me. I sat there in silence examining everyone.…
Just as the AP course positively impacted me, with the assistance of the Woodford R. Porter Scholarship, I know I can have the same impact on the University of Louisville community. At the University of Louisville, I hope to earn my degree in chemical engineering. I do understand that this degree requires a lot of knowledge about mathematics. Because I was able to overcome difficult academic situations in high schools, I know I am better prepared to deal with these challenges in college. Furthermore, my experiences of struggling in my AP courses have helped me become more sympathetic to my peers. If I see one of my peers struggling, I will provide assistance to them because I know how hard it is to ask for help. By working with my peers, we can ultimately develop a friendship inside and outside the classroom. By developing these relationships, we can learn from one another. While I cannot change my peers’ perspectives about certain issues, I can introduce them to a new perspective, my perspective. By introducing my peers to my perspective, I have helped them become more self-aware as they can do the same for me. In essence, by attending the University of Louisville, I know I can uphold the University’s mission by improving my peers’ lives by sharing my own lived experiences in classrooms. By sharing my narrative and experiences, I know I will create a more diverse…
I started to socialize quite a bit and found how welcoming of a club I was in. I played on the C team for math bowl because it sounded interesting, and although we got shut out in the first round, the good sportsmanship of Mu Alpha Theta made it fun. The wonderful, encouraging community reached its apex when my friends convinced me to run for state office, and I was elected as the state treasurer.…

Going to this new school required a fifteen minute drive commute to and from home daily. This inconvenience made it hard for me stay connect with my classmates in the afterschool extracurricular activities. Changing schools meant meeting a new group of people I did not know. Joining the school mid-year I was the stranger that came in knowing nothing about how the school worked. Most people had already formed their little friend groups and created their own schedules. On the other hand, the large amount of people at this school meant that some students still had time expand their friend group. It was a whole new experience and it was a case I had never handled in my life before. The two school environments were just too different. My new school was two stories high and had twice the amount of students. It was harder to get around the school and find my new classes. It had recently been renovated, so the whole appearance of the school was much more modern. Upon arriving, I noticed many remarkable building features. A five foot circular stained glass window started at me with its amiable eyes. The wolf drawn seemed to represent the school mascot. Compared to my old school, this school had much more classrooms and facilities. The six groupings of classrooms, the football and track…
As a child, I have been through many hardships in my life. When my parents divorced, my grandpa died. Also at this point, my mom and dad started fighting for custody of me. All of those events occurred within one calendar year. In addition, I assimilate all of those experiences, I learn and there are many things to be delighted about, nevertheless you have to go through those experiences to get to what I been though. I reckon that all experience is make me unique I have a strong emotional a better look at life I learned to find things funny. I would try to make people laugh to make me happy over my high school years. Over my high school years I have won many awards like the Thunderbird Chief award also I have donated to needy kids during Christmas…

When I got into the class, everyone stared at me. I don’t know whats going on. So I just take a seat and keep calmed. A few months later, I had to move to class 1 cendekia. I have my old friends there. But she’s not my closest friend. Everyone does not care about me. Nobody want to ask me anything. Maybe I’m too shy to meet and greet them.…
