If illustrated, there are three distinct types of point of views in a story, which is first, second and third-person point of view. From the start of this article Zinn demonstrates a first-person point of view. Before he explains the events about Hollywood and history, Zinn wanted to give an intake from his point of view on how he personally felt about the film industry. For example, he said “It took me a while to realize that Hollywood isn’t going to make movies like the ones I imagined’ (Zinn 784). This is where the author states the beginning of his argument on how Hollywood portrays historical events. However, the point of view takes a turn in this article going from the first person to second person. Unlike the first person when using “I” or “me” he decides to add “you” throughout the rest of this article, so the audience is involved in his argument. Zinn started talking about a massacre the United States military caused in the Philippines; in addition, our known president Theodore Roosevelt calls this a victory for America. Howard said “Have you ever seen a movie in which Theodore Roosevelt was presented as a racist president? As an imperialist? As a supporter of massacres? When the author uses a certain type of writing language that is visually descriptive it creates an image for the readers. Zinn started talking about the Revolutionary War in America, and thought about it would be a clever idea to tell the story of a regular working man and not schoolbooks. He started by giving some knowledge on the war, then said “It would be interesting to tell the story of the American Revolution from the viewpoint of an ordinary working man who hears the Declaration of Independence read to him from a balcony in Boston, promising freedom and equality and so on, and immediately is told that rich men can get out of service by paying several hundreds of dollars” (Zinn 785).
