Maggie Dominguez
Using the five steps from Ch. 5 of Thinking Critically, create a plan for solving a problem you are currently facing. For the last step, identify how you will determine the effectiveness of your chosen solution.
Step 1: What is the problem? How will I be able to finish my degree and obtain a better paying job?
Step 2: What are the alternatives?
Continue doing the same thing and be a licensed Pharmacy Technician? Take the certification test and become a Certified Pharmacy Technician? Or, begin university classes and complete my degree?
Step 3: What are the advantages and/or disadvantages of each alternative?
Some of the advantages are: Completing my degree, I will be able to obtain a better career with a good retirement plan. Also, will have extra money to send my children to college, and to live comfortably. Some disadvantages are: To become a Certified Pharmacy Technician, I will have to pay for the certification, which is $200.00. There still is not a pay increase or benefits. Also, going back to school, how will I find the extra time to complete my assignments and participate in class discussions? How do I work fulltime, take care of school age children, and do school work and essays?
Step 4: What is the solution?
The solution is to go back to college and finish my course of study in Electronic Health Records. Then, I will be able to transfer to the Medical Records Department.
Step 5: How well is the solution working?
Being able to vitalize using an organized approach to analyzing problems has been helpful. I am in my third term of school and have had to use time management skills, wisely.
Write a 100- to 150- word reflection about this process. How did this process help you devise a solution? How can you use this
