Human Nature

College Composition, Section 2

We Are All Evil A question I have always wondered is what if babies could talk. It wouldn’t it be nice if we could know what they were screaming about? No, if we could hear the words they were thinking mankind would die off. The seven deadliest sins are wrath, greed, sloth, pride, lust, envy and gluttony. Why are these seven the most deadliest sins? Is it the fact that they are the easiest to while causing the most damage? Everything is good in moderation, as a human race we forget what moderation is. Hell hath no fury like the wrath of a scorned woman. Wrath is a consequence of anger. Anger is not always bad depending on whether you act or react. Wrath would be the reaction to anger and becoming resentful the outcome. every The grass is always greener on the other side so now I want it. Lust is a powerful feeling to have.

Settled in a vast country with abundant natural resources, Americans soon developed a sense for industry which was characteristic of the 19th century. Unlike Europe where the craftsmen guilds long opposed progress in manufacturing, America was eager to use new technologies that would save labor, which was scarce. Thus the young nation, once freed from Colonial restrictions, progressed faster than its former mother country and eventually emerged as the foremost industrialized country in the World, just a century after its Independence.…

In Overcoming Sin and Temptation, John Owens presents the seven deadly sins or vices as a list originally used in early Christian teachings to educate and instruct followers concerning fallen man's tendency to sin. Proverbs 6:16-19 declares, “There are six things the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to him: 1) haughty eyes, 2) a lying tongue, 3) hands that shed innocent blood, 4) a heart that devises wicked schemes, 5) feet that are quick to rush into evil, 6) a false witness who pours out lies, and 7) a man who stirs up dissension among brothers.” According to Pope Gregory the Great in the 6th century, the seven deadly sins are as follows: pride, envy, gluttony, lust, anger, greed, and sloth. The traditional list of seven deadly sins…

As human beings are self-aware creatures, they have, for a long time, been questioning their nature at it’s core. Without the influence of societal pressure, is man inherently good or evil? This topic has been discussed in every form of art and literature from as early on as we can see. For example, William Golding’s novel, The Lord of the flies, shows man as an evil animalistic creature when released from the constraints of society. There are people throughout history known for the evil consequences of their actions. This can be demonstrated by Hitler, a man well-known for his evil actions in WW2.…

Since I learn to understand the world I always believe in two saying that, “everything happens for a reason’ and “never compunction the past because it made you who you are today”. I have felt that these statements have always been supportive and positive in my life. After studying determinism, these statements seem to epitomize the theory of cause and effects. Determinism is the doctrine that all events, including human choice and decisions, are necessarily determined by motives, which are regarded as external forces acting on the will. The opposing theory is libertarianism and is an older encouragement than its rival. Libertarians view that at least some human actions are free and depending on the situations people can exercise their free will.…

The duality of human nature has been discussed in literature and portrayed in the media in various different ways. Individuals are stereotypically shown in the midst of a struggle between right and wrong, between good and evil. Why do we all experience potentially damaging urges and impulses? Are we hopelessly divided against ourselves, or can we have control over our dark urges? I believe that, while we may be plagued with the potential for evil, we can not control our dark urges in and of ourselves.…

Humans are born basically good. It is Karen Horney's view that “people are essentially good” but in my personal opinion, I think that humans are in the borderline of it. Tendencies of them being good or evil or just depends. But if you were to ask me and am only allowed to choose between the two, I think I’ll be siding on that people are basically evil meaning here that I will be contradicting on Karen Horney statement. I’ll be talking about why I think humans are basically evil.…
