The first concern would be the effect the change would have to our customers, shareholders, employees, departments, and the community. There would be plenty of communication session regarding the change. Employees would not only be given information about the positive and the negative aspects of the new concept but would have opportunities to ask questions and voice their concerns as well. This will help to do any problem-solving in the groundbreaking stage. One negative aspect of my organization is that the employees were not given any information or asked their opinions regarding the move. There should have been surveys, questionnaires or meetings to give and get some feedback. The strategies and goals of an organization rely on employees’ involvement as well as commitment. There would be plenty of training offered to everyone. The Human Resource Management aspects must include acquiring, preparing, compensating, and training and developing for the employees. There will need to be policies changes made as well, employees would be asked their input in developing the new policies. Boundaries that were previously established would be abandoned. I would start the virtual workplace with my managers/supervisors collaborating with my HR department. This team would be responsible for identifying the best talent “talentship” (Moore, 2007) and connecting…

James Bradshaw came to understand employee engagement as a way to ensure ongoing business effectiveness through a series of events. In the article, it states “Modern Appliances had been in business for almost 75 years and manufactured a wide range of appliances. With sales in excess of $2 billion, Modern was considered a quality manufacturer and a good marketer.” Further, it states that in recent years, the company began to face competitive pressure as North American companies began to outsource manufacturing to China and Vietnam as well as domestic Chinese manufacturers were learning to compete effectively outside their home markets and were importing into Modern’s traditionally strong North American markets. Additionally, European companies were focusing on styling to tempt people away from traditional North American suppliers and they were luring away segments of the market to whom innovative design was appealing. (Gantz, 2007)…

For many companies, health insurance can become a challenge especially for those companies who make small profits trying to exist in today’s economy. That is the case for Quality Auto Parts, a company who has seen its profits from the late 80’s increase and decrease at different variables until today. During the recent recession the decline in auto sales put a damper on the auto parts dealers as well. This did not make things better when the doubling of health insurance benefits continues to rise over the years.…

As the largest employer in Ouachita County, Arkansas, International Forest Products Company (IFP) is an important part of the local economy. Ouachita County is a mostly rural area in south central Arkansas. It employs almost 10 percent of the local workforce, and few alternative job opportunities are available in the area. Scott Wheeler, the human resource director at IFP, tells of a difficult decision he once had to make. According to Scott, everything was going along pretty well despite the economic recession, but he knew that sooner or later the company would be affected. “I got the word at a private meeting with the president, Janet Deason, that we would have to cut the workforce by 30 percent on a crash basis. I was to get back to her within a week with a suggested plan. I knew that my plan would not be the final one, since the move was so major, but I knew that Ms. Deason was depending on me to provide at least a workable approach. “First, I thought about how the union would react. Certainly, workers would have to be let go in order of seniority. The union would try to protect as many jobs as possible. I also knew that all of management’s actions during this period would be intensely scrutinized. We had to make sure that we had our act together. “Then there was the impact on the surrounding community to consider. The economy of Ouachita County had not been in good shape recently. Aside from the influence on the individual workers who were laid off, I knew that our cutbacks would further depress the area’s economy. I knew that there would be a number of government officials and civic leaders who would want to know how we were trying to minimize the harm done to the public in the area. “We really had no choice but to make the cuts, I believed. First of all, I had no choice because Ms. Deason said we were going to do it. Also, I had recently read a news account that one of our competitors, Johns Manville Corporation in…

In this paper, the author will describe the changing role of Human Resource Management (HRM) in response to trends in globalization, technology, diversity, e-business, and ethics. . "Changes in the population, in technology, in employees' expectations, and other aspects of the business environment place heavy demands on modern HR professionals—and anyone else involved in management (The McGraw-Hill Companies)." The roles and responsibilities of human resource management have changed significantly in the past decade. Many of these changes have been in response to trends in globalization, technology, diversity, e-business and ethics. The impact of technology and ethics are not new to organizations or human resource managers. Globalization, diversity and e-business are terms that were not even considered until this past decade.…

After analyzing the job analysis that Marina conducted for the position of assistant store manager, I don’t believe she used the appropriate methods. Although her prior experience in the position is very useful, not all of the Assistant Manager positions are the same. Marina herself even believed that after hearing that she thought she had more responsibilities than other Assistant Managers. I don’t think she included how the position of Assistant Manager fits in the entire Organization. Some strengths of her job analysis was her description and duties and responsibilities, and I believe that comes from experience. Her weaknesses, however, is the qualification requirement seem a little vague. The Education is clear, but the rest is a foggy description of what is required for this position. She also left out task behaviors. Her lack of information for the KSAOs is something she may want to take a look at.…

    1. I think his request is reasonable. Nancy should have the time to address Mark’s request to develop an appropriate structure to deal with the growth of both companies. She will be able to present the possible strategies to overcome a shortage of employees. As well, she can discuss reasons why Family Distribution has experienced such a drastic fallout of staff over the past two years. Another topic she should have time to research are the complaints about the hiring practices at Family Manufacturing, whether they have genuine merit, and if so, what can be done to correct the situation. She should also be able to address the concerns of the vice president’s of both companies.…
