An important scene in the film the hunger games directed by Gary Ross is the reaping scene. This scene is important because it develops 3 ideas. Firstly, the effects of a totalitarian government, Secondly reality tv and its effects and lastly it develops kadnesses character. ross develops this scene through the use of verbal and visual features.
The first reason this scene is important is because it shows a totalitarian society this is seen through the peacekeepers looking over everyone and also the power figure at the front on the stage in her bright colors and overdone make up while everyone else is in dark dull colors this is one by using a close up shot of her skin to see her makeup covered skin and her bright hair and facial features whilst giving us a view of the dull background this shows the gap between the rich and the poor and the amount of control that the government has. This scene is important in developing the our understanding of their world and the differences between the districts that the government in forces. One of film technique used was a high angle shot to show that the people in the crowd are lesser and are just contestants and and are not so much people. This scene is important because it shows scared people that have no choice in what will happen it's a game for the capital but very real for everyone else. This scene is important because it makes kadness realise that it is just for enjoyment and she finds she can reach the people through the games. I think that people being forced to do things for others entertainment is wrong and it is good that kadness is the one to finally do something about
