I In Samarra Research Paper
(750–1258) Under the Abbasid caliphate, which succeeded the Umayyads in 750, the topic of Islamic political and cultural life shifted eastward from Syria to Iraq, where Baghdad, the circular City of Peace, was founded as the new capital. The Abbasids later built another city north of Baghdad, called Samarra meaning “He who sees it rejoices”, which replaced the capital for about 40 years. Three centuries of Abbasid rule were a golden age in which Baghdad and Samarra’ functioned as the cultural capitals of the Islamic world. During this time, a style emerged and new techniques were developed that spread throughout the Muslims and greatly influenced Islamic art and architecture. Since the new style was used throughout the Muslims, Baghdad and Samarra’ became associated with the new artistic and architectural trends. As virtually nothing remains from Abbasid Baghdad today, the site of Samarra’ is significant for understanding the art and architecture of the Abbasid time. …show more content…
In pottery, Samarra’ also found a use of color in decoration and, possibly, the introduction of the technique of luster painting over a white canvas. Admired for its glittering effect of precious metal, luster painting, the most notable technical achievement at the time, spread in the following centuries from Iraq to Spian, to Syria, to Iran, and also took part in the development of ceramic decor in the Western world. In terms of architecture, along with the palace of Jawsaq al-Khaqani the mosques of al-Mutawakkil and Abu Dulaf in Samarra’ were important in setting the style that was originated in regions as far as Egypt or Central Asia, where it was adapted to need and

Inanna is a goddess from the Mesopotamian culture. She is the goddess of love, welfare, and fertility. There are various art pieces the depict different gods or goddesses but one piece I found that involves Inanna is a cylinder seal called the Assur cylinder (Sumerian). This clay art was created in 3500 BC and was made in Susa in south-western Iran. These were normally located in various countries where cuneiform writing was used. Cylinder seals are usually made out of stone and have engraved designs on them. These would be rolled out on clay and would leave a back to front impression onto the clay. There were actually quite a bit of uses for these seals. The main use was for signatures and identified ownership. Cylinder seals can tell us a lot about what was happening during the time(s) they were created.…

On the other hand the Roman system of Alimenta shares a great deal of similarities with modern welfare as it is currently known, the Roman Empire being the birth place of many currently utilized government systems. Originally Alimenta actually began under the reign of the first Roman emperor known as Augustus, at this time it was referred to as Cura Annonae which stood for "care for the grain supply", as the name would imply this particular system under Augustus dealt more with grain than financial status. The Cura Annonae focused upon attempting to provide rations of grain to citizens of the Roman Empire who could not themselves afford to purchase food for themselves or their families, this is the first recorded instance in history of a system…

Once upon a time on the beautiful island of Hawaii, there were people everywhere on resort Namaste. It was a nice and peaceful place, light windy breeze, cool pretty blue water, children playing on the beach and people just relaxing on this nice Thursday. There were other resorts on the island, but Namaste was everyone’s favorite resort. The resort owner, Jack Nelson did everything in his power to make sure his guest was pleased while they stayed at the resort, so his resort could retain the title as the best resort of Hawaii islands. He also had an advantage as to why his resort was the best resort in Hawaii, it’s because he had a lot of friends and favorite guests and they always put the good word in for him. He also had some people who weren’t too fond of him and they tried everything in their power to destroy his business such as…

The art pieces I choose to analyze are two paired Star Tiles with Vegetal Motifs and Inscriptions. The evolution of the purpose of an artifact reveals the development of complexity within Islamic empires as time progresses. The first Islamic dynasties controlled large unified Islamic states and religious pieces served as the main type of art within their empires. The goal of the gallery layout is to display to an uninformed viewer the evolution of Islamic art over the course of a millennium, and to reveal the four unifying characteristics that emerged, figural representation, geometric patterns, vegetal patterns, and calligraphy (The Met). The first artifacts are the oldest and are only decorated with calligraphy. The pieces eventually progress to geometric and vegetal patterns. The last element to appear is figural representations, because they are the most complicated. The tiles contain three of these main characteristics; calligraphy, vegetal patterns, and geometric patterns.…

From the 600s to the 1300s, the Arabic Peninsula changed vastly. Starting as a desert wasteland, they grew from a clan based society to a rich center of culture and world trade. From the Bedouin clans to the Umayyad Caliphate to the Abbasid Caliphate, internal fighting remained as a source of continuity and contributed to the downfall of the empire, while the status of women in society evolved drastically.…

Adnan Sayed is guilty. I believe he murdered his girlfriend Hae Ming Lee in a case that has brought widespread public discussion through the forum of a contemporary radio show: Serial the Podcast. How do I know Adnan is guilty? Well of course I have no way of knowing, but in a completely different sense, I am completely sure. I know because I have lived with Adnan Sayed. I have been lied to by Adnan Sayed, and I am related to Adnan Sayed. With any familiarity to the podcast, one doesn’t have to cast their search light far to find someone with the same charm and smooth-talking mannerisms as Adnan. The essential theme of Serial boils down to a dilemma that becomes more chilling the more time you spend pondering the question; Can someone who presents themselves as so likeable and sincere, really commit such an atrocity? In that past few years of my life, I have discovered first hand that, yes, the charismatic and amiable man I loved most in the world, was capable of things unforseen to everyone.…
