Inanna Research Paper
Inanna is a goddess from the Mesopotamian culture. She is the goddess of love, welfare, and fertility. There are various art pieces the depict different gods or goddesses but one piece I found that involves Inanna is a cylinder seal called the Assur cylinder (Sumerian). This clay art was created in 3500 BC and was made in Susa in south-western Iran. These were normally located in various countries where cuneiform writing was used. Cylinder seals are usually made out of stone and have engraved designs on them. These would be rolled out on clay and would leave a back to front impression onto the clay. There were actually quite a bit of uses for these seals. The main use was for signatures and identified ownership. Cylinder seals can tell us a lot about what was happening during the time(s) they were created.

Anubus is a very well-known god from Egyptian times. This god is considered to be the 'protector of the dead' and is a Jackal. The Book of the Dead shows Anubus and was created in 1300 BC. This is a set of chapters that consist of spells and different formulas. It was written on papyrus and started to show up in tombs around 1600 BC. Most Egyptians considered it to be the book that would help guide the dead to living an amazing afterlife. Originally it was created in Egypt but can now be found at The British Museum in London.

Ancient Rome had many pieces of art that involved gods and/or goddesses. One god that many people aren't familiar with is Janus; God of Gates. He was known to be the god of new beginnings. The Arch of Janus is an architectural piece that frames the Church of St. George, Velabro and can be found in the Forum Bourium. It was used as a crossover from the Forum to the River Tiber. ARch of Janus was made from spolia which is material used from earlier buildings. This was created in the 4th century (400 BC) and is still standing in Rome.

On the other hand the Roman system of Alimenta shares a great deal of similarities with modern welfare as it is currently known, the Roman Empire being the birth place of many currently utilized government systems. Originally Alimenta actually began under the reign of the first Roman emperor known as Augustus, at this time it was referred to as Cura Annonae which stood for "care for the grain supply", as the name would imply this particular system under Augustus dealt more with grain than financial status. The Cura Annonae focused upon attempting to provide rations of grain to citizens of the Roman Empire who could not themselves afford to purchase food for themselves or their families, this is the first recorded instance in history of a system…

Athena (Roman name: Minerva), goddess of wisdom and battle strategy, is one of the most beloved and well known gods of the Greek myths. According to Greek mythology, Athena sprang from the head of Zeus, fully grown and wearing battle attire. Athena is always portrayed with her armor and helmet, carrying her shield and lance. Athena is also a gifted craftsman; she created the bridle to tame horses, along with many other crafts and useful objects. Her favorite bird is the owl, which is the symbol of wisdom, watchfulness and the hunt. Athena made all of her followers live a life of purity, and she created a big impact on Greece’s history. On of the most famous myths involving Athena is the origination of the city of the Athens’ symbol. The story begins when Poseidon and Athena have a dispute over who is to rule Athens. Whoever greats the best symbol to represent the city would become patron god or goddess. Poseidon, god of the sea, produced a freshwater spring for the Acropolis. Athena chose to present an olive tree, one of her many symbols. Because olive trees are deemed very useful, Athena became crowned patron goddess of Athens, and she has been ever since.…

    Athena Role Model

Athena is one of the most well known goddesses from ancient Greece. She is Goddess of Wisdom and of War and is a good example of the template used for our modern day female superhero. Often called a feminist goddess, she is described as strong in both her character and body, independent and fierce, wise and rational. The story of Athena’s birth is well known. Zeus consumed the Titan goddess Metis and began to suffer a headache, Hephaestus then splits Zeus’ head open to relieve the ache and out of the wound sprung Athena. If you look close enough, Athena was born of man and woman asexually, but it was often said, even by Athena herself that she was born only of man. This course of action is a denial of the maternal origin and her mother is never seen in ancient myth as a disrespect. The denial of birth and female power to give birth commandeers this power and creates another layer of patriarchal views on the creation of life in the world. She belongs to only her father and sees herself as his greatest and most trusted heir. She was a part of the world in a way the women of her time were not allowed to be, a goddess of both war and wisdom, when the women in society were seen as irrational and unpredictable by the men around them. But she still remains a beacon of what a perfect women should be in their society, virginal, beautiful and loyally pledged to…

From what I do know about this term is that, even though I have never heard it used before, (maybe it's because I am a beginer) I know that to Wiccans, the fifth element is known as the "spirit". The word Akasha is actually a Sanskit word "meaning aether in both its elemental and metaphysical senses" (according to Wikipedia). Origin of Akasha is Hindi. Akasha is also taken to mean sky, by way of Hindu and Gujarati Indian languages. This is why Wiccans also associate Akasha with outer space or "the void". Akasha is seen as the omnipresent spiritual power, that permeates the universe. It is the energy out of which the Elements formed.…
